The Rich Solar 20 Amp MPPT Solar Charge Controller (RS-MPPT20) charges 12V or 24V battery banks at up to 20A and is recommended for solar arrays up to 260W at 12V or 520W at 24V. Its MPPT tracking efficiency is rated above 99%, with up to 98% conversion efficiency, so more of your panels' output ends up in the battery.
The controller accepts up to 100V of solar input, works with sealed, gel, flooded and lithium batteries, and can recover over-discharged lithium batteries. An LCD screen with LED indicators shows charging and battery status, and an RS232 port connects to the optional Rich Solar BT-1 Bluetooth module for monitoring from your phone.
Maximum power point tracking continuously finds the voltage and current where your panels produce the most power, then converts the extra voltage into charging current. Rich Solar rates tracking efficiency above 99% and conversion efficiency up to 98%.
The controller identifies 12V or 24V battery systems automatically during installation. It handles up to 100V of solar input and up to 25A of PV short-circuit current, so you can wire panels in series to reduce current in long cable runs.
Charging settings cover sealed, gel, flooded and lithium batteries. The controller can also charge lithium batteries that have been over-discharged.
The LCD and LED indicators display charging status, battery information, operating parameters and fault codes. Add the optional BT-1 Bluetooth module through the RS232 port to monitor the system wirelessly.
A 20A rated load output lets you run DC loads such as lights, fans or a small pump directly from the controller, with a discharge circuit voltage drop of 0.15V or less.
The die-cast aluminum case helps dissipate heat for reliable operation. Electronic protection guards against reverse polarity, overcharging, overload and short circuits.
Small RV and trailer systems. Pair the controller with one or two 100W panels to keep a house battery charged.
Vans and truck campers. A compact MPPT controller for a small roof array and a lithium battery.
Boats. Maintain a house or starting battery from a small panel.
Sheds, gates and remote equipment. Charge 12V or 24V batteries that run lights, cameras, gate openers and sensors.
Starter off-grid systems. Begin with a small array on a 24V battery and use the full 520W rating.
Versus a PWM controller. A PWM controller like the Rich Solar BRAVO LEGEND 30 costs less but cannot convert extra panel voltage into current. An MPPT controller typically harvests more energy, especially in cold weather or with higher-voltage panels.
Versus a larger MPPT controller. A 30A or 40A MPPT controller supports more solar. The 20A model is sized for arrays up to 260W at 12V or 520W at 24V, in a smaller case.
Versus a controller with built-in Bluetooth. Some controllers build Bluetooth in. This model lets you add the BT-1 module only if you want app monitoring, and use the LCD on its own otherwise.
This may be a good fit if
Not built in. It supports the optional Rich Solar BT-1 Bluetooth module, which connects to the RS232 port.
Yes. It supports lithium batteries and can charge over-discharged lithium batteries.
Stay within 260W at 12V or 520W at 24V, under 100V open-circuit voltage and under 25A short-circuit current. Two 100W 12V panels in series is a common setup on a 12V battery.
Yes. It detects 12V or 24V automatically.
The Rich Solar 20 Amp MPPT Solar Charge Controller brings MPPT efficiency, lithium support and an easy-to-read display to small 12V and 24V solar systems. At Outbound Power, we help customers match controllers to their panels, batteries and wiring. If you have questions, our team is happy to help.
