The ACOPower 10W 12V Solar Charger Kit pairs a 10 watt monocrystalline solar panel with a 5 amp PWM charge controller and battery leads, so you can start charging a 12 volt battery the day it arrives. It is designed for people new to solar who want to keep an RV, boat, trailer, tractor or cabin battery topped up without running power to it.
The controller connects to your battery with a 15 ft cable with alligator clamps and a 5A fuse, so there is nothing to crimp or splice. ACOPower notes that the clamps carry no voltage until they are connected to a proper battery, which helps prevent accidental shorts. A USB port on the controller can charge a phone or other USB device from the battery.
The HY010-12M panel produces 10 watts at standard test conditions, with 17.5V at the maximum power point and an operating current of 0.57A. It has a low-iron tempered glass face, an anodized aluminum frame and an IP65 junction box, and is rated for 2400Pa of wind and 5400Pa of snow load.
The ACOPower LS0512EU controller regulates charging for a 12V battery. It stops charging when the battery is full and starts again automatically when the voltage drops, protecting the battery from overcharging. Its 5 amp rating leaves room to add a second panel later, and ACOPower says the system can be expanded to a maximum of two panels.
A 5V USB port lets you charge phones, lights and other small USB devices from the battery the kit is charging.
The kit includes a 15 ft cable with alligator clamps and a 5A fuse. Clip it on in seconds or route it to a permanent connection.
Pre-drilled frame holes fit Z brackets, tilt mounts and pole mounts. The panel can also lean against a wall or rack for temporary use.
RVs and trailers in storage. Offset the slow drain that flattens batteries between trips.
Boats. Keep a starting or trolling battery charged at the dock or on the trailer.
Farm and yard. Charge batteries for gate openers, fence chargers, pumps and lights.
Courtyard and small lighting systems. Run a few LED lights from a battery each night.
Versus buying parts separately. The kit matches the panel, controller and leads for you, so there is no guesswork about compatibility.
Versus panel-only maintainers. A panel without a controller can overcharge a battery. The included controller manages charging automatically.
Versus larger kits. ACOPower offers kits from 10W to 50W. A larger kit charges faster or handles a bigger battery.
This may be a good fit if
It is designed for charging a 12V battery and running small DC loads. A 10W panel adds about 3.5 amp hours on a sunny day, so it suits maintenance and light loads rather than appliances.
Connect the controller to the battery first, then plug in the solar panel. Disconnect in the reverse order.
Yes. ACOPower says the 5A controller can be expanded to a maximum of two panels. Keep the total panel current under 5 amps.
Yes. It has an IP65 junction box, tempered glass and an aluminum frame for permanent outdoor mounting. Keep the controller in a sheltered spot.
The ACOPower 10W 12V Solar Charger Kit gives you a matched panel, controller and battery leads for hands-off charging of a 12V battery. At Outbound Power, we help customers pick the right kit for their battery and how they use it. If you have questions, our team is happy to help.
