The Renogy 50 Watt 12 Volt Monocrystalline Solar Panel Is a Compact N-Type Panel for Small Off-Grid Jobs

The Renogy 50 Watt 12 Volt Monocrystalline Solar Panel is a small, rigid panel for battery maintenance and light off-grid loads. It uses A+ grade N-type cells with up to 25% cell efficiency and 16 busbar (16BB) technology, all in a 22.8 x 19.8 inch aluminum frame that weighs just over 5 pounds. It is a good starting point for solar beginners and a handy add-on for anyone who needs a little power in a spot without an outlet.

Use it to keep a vehicle, boat or RV battery topped up during storage, run a gate opener, power backyard lights and sprinklers, or charge a small battery for a camera, sensor or fence. MC4 leads make it easy to connect to a charge controller or add to a larger solar system.

Renogy 50 Watt 12 Volt Solar Panel Features

N-Type Cells With 16BB Technology

Premium N-type cells reach up to 25% cell efficiency, and 16 busbars per cell improve current collection while reducing the effect of hot spots and microcracks over time.

Compact and Light

At 22.8 x 19.8 x 1.2 inches and 5.07 lbs, the panel fits on sheds, coops, poles, boat rails and small roofs.

Built for the Outdoors

Low-iron tempered glass, a corrosion-resistant aluminum frame and polyamide corner supports stand up to years of sun, rain and wind. The IP65 junction box keeps out dust and water spray, and bypass diodes help limit power loss in partial shade.

Installation Ready

Pre-drilled holes on the back of the frame work with Z brackets, pole mounts and tilt mounts. MC4 connectors plug into standard solar cables and controllers.

Long Warranty

Renogy backs the panel with a 10-year materials and workmanship warranty and a power output warranty of 95% at 5 years, 90% at 10 years and 80% at 25 years.

Real-World Applications

Battery maintenance. Keep RV, boat, tractor and vehicle batteries charged during storage.

Gates, fences and lighting. Power an automatic gate opener, electric fence or yard lighting.

Remote sensors and cameras. Charge a small battery for trail cameras, weather stations and monitoring equipment.

Small off-grid systems. Run a fan or light in a shed, coop or small cabin.

How It Compares to Common Alternatives

Versus a 100W panel. A 100W panel produces twice the power and costs less per watt, but it is about twice the size. The 50W panel is the better fit when space is limited or loads are small.

Versus flexible panels. Flexible panels are lighter and can follow curved surfaces, but rigid glass panels usually last longer and stay cooler.

Versus trickle chargers. Small trickle chargers are fine for maintaining one battery. The 50W panel provides enough power to also run small loads.

Is This Panel the Right Fit

  • Charge controller. Use a 12V charge controller, PWM or MPPT, between the panel and battery.
  • Output. Expect roughly 150 to 250Wh per day in good sun, depending on location and season.
  • Mounting. Face the panel toward the sun with a clear view and tilt it for your latitude.
  • Expansion. Add more panels in series or parallel as your needs grow, staying within your controller's limits.

This may be a good fit if

  • You need to maintain a battery or run a small load
  • You have limited space for a panel
  • You are new to solar and want a simple starter panel
  • You want a rigid panel with a long warranty

Common Questions

Can I Connect It Directly to a Battery?

No. Always use a charge controller to regulate charging and protect the battery.

Can I Connect It to Other Panels?

Yes. It can be wired in series or parallel with matching panels. Keep total voltage and current within your controller's ratings.

Does It Work in Cloudy Weather?

It still produces power in cloudy conditions, but output drops well below its rating.
