The SunGold Power SGM-655M Pairs a 6.5kW Inverter With 2,220W of Solar and 5.12kWh of LiFePO4 Storage

The SunGold Power 6.5kW 48VDC Off-Grid Solar Kit (SGM-655M) is a complete off-grid solar kit built around a 6500W split-phase all-in-one inverter (SPH6548P). It includes 6 x 370W monocrystalline solar panels for 2,220W of solar, 1 x 51.2V 100Ah LiFePO4 Powerwall battery (SG48100M) for 5.12kWh of storage, and the breakers, cables, and mounting hardware SunGold lists for the system.

SunGold describes this as a starter package for off-grid cabins and shops. With a single 5.12kWh Powerwall battery, it is the entry point to SunGold's 6.5kW split-phase systems, and you can add batteries and panels as your needs grow.

SunGold Power SGM-655M 6.5kW Solar Kit Features

6.5kW Split-Phase Inverter

The SPH6548P is a 6500W all-in-one inverter with 120/240VAC split-phase pure sine wave output and 13,000VA of peak power. Two built-in MPPT channels accept up to 5,000W of solar each, and the unit charges batteries from solar, the grid, or a generator at up to 140A combined. It is certified to UL1741 and includes Wi-Fi monitoring.

5.12kWh of LiFePO4 Storage

The SG48100M is a wall-mounted 51.2V, 100Ah (5.12kWh) lithium iron phosphate battery. SunGold rates it for 7,000 or more cycles at 80% depth of discharge with a 15-year design life, and it communicates with the inverter over RS232, RS485, or CAN. It is certified to UL1973 and is rated IP20 for indoor installation.

2,220W Solar Array

The 370W monocrystalline PERC panels (SG370WM) use 120 half-cut 182mm cells, carry UL61730 certification, and are rated for 2,400Pa wind and 5,400Pa snow loads. SunGold backs them with a 12-year material and workmanship warranty and a 25-year power output warranty. At four peak sun hours, the 6-panel array produces about 8.9kWh per day. Actual output depends on location, season, tilt, and shading.

Built-In MPPT Solar Charging

The inverter has built-in MPPT solar charging, so the panels connect directly to the inverter without a separate charge controller. That keeps wiring simpler and reduces the number of components to mount.

Breakers, Cables, and Mounting Hardware

SunGold includes DC and PV breakers, battery and inverter cables, 50-foot solar extension cables, and Z-brackets for mounting the panels, all sized for this kit. SunGold also publishes a wiring diagram for the kit on its website. Having matched protection and cabling in the box saves sourcing time and helps keep the installation consistent.

Room to Expand

Up to six SPH6548P inverters can be paralleled as your loads grow. You can add more SG48100M batteries later to extend storage. Add panels within the inverter solar input limits as your energy use grows.

Real-World Applications

Off-grid cabins. Power lights, refrigeration, electronics, and pumps at a remote property.

Shops and garages. Run tools and equipment without trenching a utility line.

Small homes. Cover everyday household loads with solar and battery storage.

Home backup. Keep essential circuits running through outages.

How It Compares to Common Alternatives

Versus buying components separately. A kit pairs an inverter, batteries, and panels that SunGold has matched for voltage and current, with breakers and cables sized for the system and a published wiring diagram.

Versus a fuel generator alone. Solar and batteries run quietly with no fuel deliveries. Many off-grid owners still keep a generator for long cloudy stretches, and the inverter can charge the batteries from one.

Versus the SGM-6510M. The SGM-6510M has the same inverter and panels with two batteries (10.24kWh) for longer runtime.

Is This Solar Kit the Right Fit

  • Daily energy. The array produces about 8.9kWh per day at four peak sun hours. Compare that with your average daily use.
  • Loads. The inverter provides 6,500W of continuous 120/240VAC split phase output. This kit supplies 240V for well pumps, dryers, and other 240V appliances.
  • Battery location. The battery is rated IP20 and belongs in a dry, indoor space.
  • Mounting. Z-brackets are included for flat surface mounting. Ground mounts or racking for other mounting styles are sold separately.
  • Installation. Have a qualified electrician install the system and follow local codes and permit requirements.

This may be a good fit if

  • You want a matched solar, battery, and inverter package
  • You need 120V and 240V power
  • Your daily energy use is around 8.9kWh or less
  • You plan to expand the system later

Common Questions

How Much Energy Will This Kit Produce?

At four peak sun hours, the 2,220W array produces about 8.9kWh per day. Production varies with your location, season, and panel orientation.

Does It Need a Separate Charge Controller?

No. Solar charging is built into the inverter.

Can I Add More Batteries Later?

You can add more SG48100M batteries later to extend storage.

Can It Charge From a Generator?

Yes. The inverter accepts AC input from the grid or a generator to charge the batteries and pass power to loads.

Is Installation Included?

No. The kit ships as components. We recommend a qualified electrician for installation and permitting.
