Two Fuels From One Switch

A single fuel selector switch picks gasoline or LPG and also turns the engine on. Firman includes an LPG regulator and hose that connects to the inlet on the control panel. If gasoline is hard to find or you'd rather not store it, you can run on a propane cylinder instead.

Electric Start With Recoil Backup

Hold the engine start switch in the START position and the starter motor cranks the engine. A recoil starter is there as a backup. The 12V battery charges only while the engine runs, so Firman suggests a trickle charger or battery maintainer (not included) if you use the generator less than about once every two weeks.

CO Alert Automatic Shutdown

CO Alert shuts the engine down automatically when harmful levels of carbon monoxide build up around the generator, or if a CO Alert fault occurs. A yellow light blinks for five seconds at startup to show the system is working. CO Alert does not replace carbon monoxide alarms, so Firman tells you to install battery-powered CO alarms in your home.

RV Ready Control Panel

The covered panel has a 5-20R 120V 20A duplex, an L5-30R 120V 30A twist lock and a TT-30R 120V 30A RV outlet. Circuit breakers protect the receptacles if the generator is overloaded or a short occurs. The TT-30R is the 30A RV receptacle, which is why Firman calls this generator RV ready.

Data-Minder and Fuel Gauge

Press SELECT on the 3-1 Data-Minder to see voltage, hertz and running hours. Tracking hours makes it simple to keep up with oil changes, and the fuel gauge on the tank shows how much gasoline is left before you need to refill.

Low Oil Shutdown and Cast Iron Sleeve

If the oil level drops below the minimum, a sensor stops the engine, which helps protect it. The 208cc engine has a cast iron sleeve, and an automatic voltage regulator (AVR) controls the output voltage as you add and remove loads.

Versus the Firman P03628. The P03628 has the same 3650W/4550W gasoline rating and a 5-gallon tank, and it adds remote start. It runs on gasoline only. Choose the H03654 if you want propane as a second fuel.

Versus the Firman P03503. The P03503 is a gasoline-only, recoil-start model rated at 3550 running and 4450 starting watts. The H03654 adds electric start, propane operation and a little more output.

Versus inverter generators. The H03654 is an open frame generator with AVR, and Firman recommends a plug-in surge suppressor for sensitive electronics. If quiet running and power for electronics are your main concerns, an inverter generator may suit you better. If you want dual fuel and 30A outlets, the H03654 fits.

Is This Dual Fuel Generator the Right Fit

• California. Firman states this unit is not certified to ship to California, so it can't be sold or shipped there.
• 120V only. There is no 240V output. Firman's manual covers powering outdoor items with extension cords and does not recommend running cords directly into your home to power indoor items.
• Weight. At 119.5 lbs it rolls on 8.0" flat free wheels with a handle, so plan for help if you need to lift it.
• Floating neutral. The AC receptacle ground pins are not functional, so devices that need a working ground pin, such as a plug-in GFCI, won't operate. The 5-20R duplex is not GFCI protected.
• Placement. Run it outdoors only, at least 20 feet from occupied spaces with the exhaust pointed away. Firman's manual says it is not intended for use at a construction site as defined by NEC section 590.6.

Firman rates it at up to 14 hours of run time at 50% load on the 5-gallon tank. On propane, the manual lists fuel use of 8.67 ft³/hr at 25% load, 16.4 ft³/hr at half load and 23.7 ft³/hr at full load, so propane run time depends on your cylinder.

What Propane Cylinder Does It Need?

Use only DOT LPG cylinders in vapor service with Type 1, right-hand ACME threads, and check that the re-qualification date has not expired. Keep the cylinder upright and tighten the regulator onto the cylinder valve by hand, not with a wrench.

How Loud Is It?

Firman lists 67 dB at 50% load.

Can I Use It at High Altitude?

Yes, with reduced output. Above sea level, engine power and generator output drop by about 3.5% for every 1,000 feet. Firman can supply high altitude carburetor main jets for 3,000 to 8,000 feet through customer support.
