The Renogy 400W 12V RV Solar Kit is built around Renogy's 50A DC-DC on-board battery charger with MPPT, a single unit that charges your RV or van house battery from solar panels and from the vehicle's alternator while you drive. The kit includes four Renogy 16BB N-type 100W panels, a BT-2 Bluetooth module, Y branch connectors, a 20-foot adaptor kit, 4 AWG tray and fuse cables, ANL and in-line fuses, a double cable entry gland and Z-bracket mounts.
That combination keeps a lithium or lead-acid house battery charged whether you are parked at camp in the sun or driving between stops. A clear wiring diagram makes installation manageable for DIY RVers, and the system is designed to expand as your power needs grow.
The charger accepts solar input up to 50V and alternator input, delivering up to 50A (660W) to a 12V battery with 94% charging efficiency. It supports AGM, sealed, gel, flooded, lithium and user-defined battery profiles, and its soft-start design supports battery stability.
N-type cells with 16 busbars reach 25% cell efficiency for strong output in heat and low light. Each panel measures 34.1 x 22.8 x 1.2 inches and weighs 13 lbs.
The included BT-2 module connects the charger to the Renogy app so you can monitor solar and alternator charging from your phone.
The panels use a thick 1.1 to 1.2 mm aluminum frame with 20 pre-drilled mounting holes and IP67 solar connectors. A double cable entry gland seals the roof penetration.
A 60A ANL fuse set, 2-foot 4 AWG ANL fuse cable and two waterproof in-line PV fuse holders protect the system.
RVs and travel trailers. Keep house batteries charged from solar at camp and from the tow vehicle on the road.
Camper vans. Combine alternator and solar charging in one compact unit.
Boats and caravans. Charge house batteries from the engine and the sun.
Overland vehicles. Maintain a fridge and auxiliary battery on long trips.
Versus separate solar and DC-DC chargers. Two separate units cost more and take more space and wiring. The 50A DC-DC with MPPT handles both sources.
Versus solar-only kits. Solar-only kits cannot charge while you drive on cloudy days. Alternator charging keeps the battery topped up regardless of weather.
Versus generators. This kit charges silently with no fuel and no quiet-hour restrictions.
This may be a good fit if
A 12V house battery, plus an inverter if you want to run AC appliances.
Calculate the AC's watts times hours of use, divide by peak sun hours and add a 1.5 to 2 safety factor. Most RV air conditioners need more solar and battery capacity than this kit alone provides.
Yes. The charger draws from the alternator when the engine runs and from the solar panels whenever there is sun.
The Renogy 400W 12V RV Solar Kit keeps your house battery charged in the sun and on the road with efficient N-type panels and a 50A DC-DC charger with MPPT. At Outbound Power, we help customers choose batteries and plan RV charging systems. If you have questions, our team is happy to help.
