The SunGold Power 8KW 48V Split Phase Solar Inverter (model SPH8048P) puts a pure sine wave inverter, two MPPT solar charge controllers and a grid or generator charger into one wall-mounted cabinet. It supplies 8000W of 120/240V split phase or 120V single phase power and is certified UL 1741 by ETL for off grid solar systems.

It is a good match for off-grid homes and cabins, and for backup systems that need 240V circuits without stepping up to a larger unit. It runs on a 48V battery bank, and up to six units can be paralleled for 48kW of output.

8000W Split Phase Output With a 16000W Peak

Rated output is 8000W, with a 16000W peak and a 5HP motor load rating. That covers a typical mix of household appliances, lighting and 240V loads. Output can be set to split phase or single phase.

Dual MPPT Charge Controllers

Two MPPT trackers accept 11000W of PV in total. Each input handles up to 500Vdc open circuit and 22A, with a 125-425Vdc MPPT range and 99.9% tracking efficiency. Two inputs let you run strings on different roof faces or ground mounts.

Fast Solar and Grid Charging

The battery can charge at up to 200A from solar and up to 100A from the grid or a generator. With both sources together, hybrid charging is capped at 180A. The charge current is adjustable, so you can match it to your battery's limits.

Charging and Output Priorities

Four charging modes (hybrid, utility priority, solar priority and solar only) and four output modes (utility priority, solar and utility hybrid, solar priority and inverter priority) let you decide where power comes from. A time-slot function sets charging and discharging periods around local peak and valley tariffs.

Battery Flexibility With Lithium Wake-Up

The inverter works with 48V AGM or sealed, gel, flooded and lithium batteries, plus a user mode. When a lithium battery is dormant, grid or PV power can activate it. CAN, USB and RS485 communication is supported with SunGold batteries.

Expand to 48kW With Parallel Units

Six units can be paralleled for 48kW, as 120V single phase, 120/240V split phase or 208V three-phase. A parallel communication cable is packed with the inverter.

Built-In Protection and Monitoring

SunGold lists PV input over-voltage and over-current protection, AC input over-voltage protection, battery over-voltage protection and overload protection. An LCD shows a live power flow diagram, and a Wi-Fi port supports app monitoring with SunGold's Wi-Fi components.

How It Compares to Common Alternatives

Versus the 10KW model (SPH10048P). The 10KW shares the same dual MPPT input but adds 2000W of output, a 6HP motor rating, 120A grid charging and 200A hybrid charging. The 8KW is slightly smaller and lighter at 17.7 x 25.6 x 5.1 inches and 53.5 lb.

Versus a grid-interactive hybrid inverter. SunGold certifies this model for off grid solar systems, and its UL certificate lists it as a stand-alone inverter. If you plan to export solar power to the utility, a grid-interactive hybrid is the type to look at.

Versus a 120V-only inverter charger. A 120V unit cannot power 240V appliances. This model supplies both legs of a split phase panel from one cabinet.

• Battery bank. Requires a 48V bank within 40-60Vdc. SunGold's manual calls for 50 mm² (0 AWG) battery cable and a 2P-200A breaker.

• AC wiring. The manual lists 8 AWG conductors and a 3P-63A breaker for split phase AC input and output.
• Location. IP20 rated for indoor use only, from 14 to 131°F with derating above 113°F.

Common Questions

What Batteries Can It Charge?

48V AGM or sealed, gel, flooded and lithium batteries, plus a user mode for custom charge settings. It communicates with SunGold batteries over CAN, USB or RS485.

What Happens If the Inverter Is Overloaded?

Between 102% and 110% load it reports an error and shuts off output after 5 minutes. Between 110% and 125% it shuts off after 10 seconds, and above 125% after 5 seconds. Output resumes after 3 minutes, and after 5 overloads in a row it stays off until restarted.

Can It Supply Three-Phase Power?

Yes, in a parallel system. Multiple units can be configured for 208V three-phase output, and up to six units can run together.

Can It Be Installed Outdoors?

No. The enclosure is rated IP20 for indoor use only. SunGold also advises keeping it out of direct sunlight, damp areas and enclosed spaces shared with lead-acid batteries.
