RV5 alternator wiring set with red and black cables, rotary battery switch and terminal stud

The BLUETTI RV5 Alternator Charger Wiring Pack Connects Your Vehicle's Starter Battery to the RV5 for Charging While You Drive

The BLUETTI RV5 Alternator Charger Wiring Pack is the wiring set for vehicle charging on the RV5 5-in-1 power hub. It connects your 12V or 24V starter battery to the RV5's PV2 ports.

It's for RV and van owners who want the RV5 to take charge from the alternator and need the protective parts BLUETTI calls for.

BLUETTI RV5 Alternator Charger Wiring Pack Features

Connection and Fuse Covered

BLUETTI's RV5 manual says the required connection cable and fuse are part of its optional cable kit. A fuse or other overcurrent protection is required on the starter battery. The manual notes that damage from missing protection is not covered under warranty.

Wiring Follows the Manual

The manual's vehicle charging wiring uses an isolated switch, a fuse and three wires, two red and one black. The black wire connects the starter battery's negative terminal to the RV5's PV2- port. A fuse sits on the starter battery's positive terminal and feeds the isolated switch through the long red wire. A short red wire runs from the switch, in the off state, to the PV2+ port.

Charging Stops When Full

Once the battery is fully charged, the RV5 stops charging automatically. Set the charging current in the BLUETTI app to match your alternator's capacity so the starter battery isn't drained.

Real-World Applications

Charging on the road. Put the alternator's output into your RV5 battery system while you drive.

Van and RV conversions. Add vehicle charging to an RV5 install that also uses solar.

Practical Comparison

Alternator Charging Versus Solar or Shore Power

Alternator charging works when the engine runs. Solar works in daylight, and shore power needs a hookup. The RV5 accepts vehicle charging through PV2 and solar through PV1 and PV2.

Buyer Guidance

Fuse and Wire Sizing

For vehicle charging, BLUETTI lists 6 to 8 AWG (10 to 6 mm²) cable and a fuse of about 75A, with an isolated switch rated to match. Always install overcurrent protection on the starter battery. If you are unsure of the fuse rating, BLUETTI suggests its cable kit or asking its support team.

This May Be A Good Fit If

  • You want to charge an RV5 system from your vehicle's alternator
  • Your starter battery is 12V or 24V
  • You want wiring that follows BLUETTI's manual

Common Questions

Can I Charge From the Cigarette Lighter Port?

No. BLUETTI says not to charge the RV5 from the vehicle's cigarette lighter port.

Does the RV5 Need Its Engine Running?

Charging power depends on your vehicle's output, so charging happens while the vehicle is producing power. Set the charging current in the app for your alternator.

Is a Fuse Required?

Yes. A fuse or other overcurrent protection is required on the starter battery ports.
