The EG4 Wi-Fi + Ethernet Dongle (EG4 SKU EG4ADEV1.1) is a monitoring adapter that plugs into the dongle port on an EG4 inverter and sends system data to the EG4 Monitor app and web portal. It connects through a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network or a wired Ethernet cable to your router, so you can choose the connection that works best at your installation.
The adapter is IP65 rated, mounts with four screws, has a built-in antenna and supports firmware updates locally or remotely. It reconnects automatically after a network interruption, so your data keeps flowing.
Use Wi-Fi when the router is close by, or run a shielded Ethernet cable (T568B pinout, up to 65 ft) when Wi-Fi is weak or unreliable at the inverter. EG4 rates the Wi-Fi range at up to 328 ft unobstructed and 148 ft indoors.
Once online, the dongle reports to the EG4 Monitor app (iOS and Android) and the EG4 monitoring website, so you can check your system from your phone or computer.
The IP65 housing and a water-resistant connector around the Ethernet cable protect the connection. It operates from -13°F to 158°F.
The dongle inserts into the inverter's dongle port and is secured with four screws, so it stays firmly in place.
Three LEDs show the connection to the inverter (INV), the internet (Cloud) and the router's IP address (IP). A multi-function RESET button switches modes and starts Wi-Fi pairing.
Firmware can be upgraded with a local tool or remotely, which keeps the dongle current without a site visit.
Homes with EG4 inverters. Check your system from the EG4 Monitor app instead of walking out to the inverter screen.
Installs with weak Wi-Fi. Run an Ethernet cable from the router when the inverter sits in a garage or utility room with poor signal.
Installers and support. EG4 offers installer and distributor monitoring accounts, so your installer can see your system remotely.
Multi-inverter systems. Each inverter gets its own dongle, and the extra dongles are added to the account from the Configurations tab.
Ethernet. Remove the water-resistant connector, fix the dongle to the inverter's port with its four screws, feed your Ethernet cable through the connector's rubber seal, click it into the dongle's RJ45 port and screw the connector back on. Plug the other end into your router.
Wi-Fi. Hold RESET for about 5 seconds to enter Wi-Fi mode, join the dongle's own network from your phone, then choose Dongle Connect in the EG4 Monitor app and enter your home Wi-Fi name and password. All three LEDs light when it is connected.
Versus a Wi-Fi only dongle. A Wi-Fi only adapter depends entirely on wireless signal at the inverter. This dongle adds a wired Ethernet option for steadier monitoring.
Versus no monitoring. Without a dongle, you only see what the inverter screen shows in person. With it, you can review performance and spot problems remotely.
This May Be a Good Fit If
No. In Wi-Fi mode it supports 2.4GHz networks only. Wi-Fi 6 is not currently supported.
No. EG4 recommends a shielded Ethernet cable with a T568B pinout and a run of no more than 65 ft.
Watch the IP LED. It flashes slowly (once per second) in Ethernet mode and rapidly (three times per second) in Wi-Fi mode. When all three LEDs stay on, communication is normal.
Yes. In a multi-inverter system, connect a dongle to each unit and add each one to your monitoring account.
The EG4 Wi-Fi + Ethernet Dongle gives your EG4 inverter a dependable link to the EG4 Monitor app over Wi-Fi or Ethernet. At Outbound Power, we help customers choose the right parts for their solar and battery systems. If you have questions, our team is happy to help.
