The Generac Next-Gen 10kW (model G0072570) is the smallest model in Generac's Next-Gen air-cooled standby line. It is rated for 10kW on liquid propane (LP) and 9kW on natural gas (NG), starts on its own when utility power fails and shuts down after the grid returns. A single-cylinder 459cc G-Force engine keeps it compact and quiet, at 61 dB(A) under normal load.
Generac's own sizing guide points a 10kW unit at whole-house backup for homes up to about 1,500 square feet, or essential circuits in a larger home. You can order it alone or bundled with a 100A automatic transfer switch that has a 16-space, 24-circuit load center built in.
The Power Zone 200 controller watches utility voltage around the clock. When voltage drops below the dropout setting (75 to 80% of nominal), the generator starts, warms up and takes the load through the transfer switch. When utility power returns, it transfers back and cools down before shutting off, with no one needing to be home.
A Generac Generator Connectivity Accessory with cellular service ships in the box, and the unit also has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capability. Through the Mobile Link app you can check generator status, exercise and run hours, maintenance information and monthly reports, and you can connect your account to an authorized service dealer. Some Mobile Link features require a premium subscription.
Electronic fuel and ignition control (EFIC) adjusts the engine for changing conditions. Generac says it improves fuel efficiency and lowers emissions on average compared with its Guardian Series units, and hydraulic lifters keep valve spacing set so you never adjust valves by hand.
Generac's True Power technology holds total harmonic distortion below 5%, and digital voltage regulation holds output within about 1%. That clean sine wave suits computers, smart appliances and variable-speed HVAC equipment.
Oil change intervals run up to 2 years or 200 hours, and an oil level sensor reports oil level for you. Smart Exercise runs the engine for 5 minutes each week by default, or bi-weekly or monthly for 5 to 20 minutes, and it skips a scheduled run if the generator already ran more than 5 minutes in the prior 72 hours.
A sloped roof and rear air intake reduce snow and ice intrusion, and Generac rates the sound-attenuated aluminum enclosure for winds up to 150 mph. The unit is listed by the Southwest Research Institute for installation as close as 18 in from a structure, away from doors, windows and fresh air intakes and in line with local codes.
Smaller homes and condos. Generac's sizing guide lists a 10kW unit for a 3-ton air conditioner, kitchen, furnace, sump pump, one bathroom, two bedrooms, living areas and a well pump or water heater.
Essential circuits in a larger home. Pair it with the 16-circuit transfer switch to back up the circuits that matter most, such as the furnace, refrigerator, sump pump and lights.
Storm-prone areas. Automatic starts and cellular monitoring mean the house stays powered and you get status updates even when you are away.
Homes on natural gas. Run it from your existing gas service for long outages without refueling.
Versus the Generac Next-Gen 14kW. The 14kW uses a two-cylinder 817cc engine and is rated 14kW on both fuels with a 60A breaker. The 10kW uses a single-cylinder 459cc engine, weighs 344 lb instead of 391 lb and runs quieter at 61 dB(A) versus 65 dB(A). Both share the same 46.4 x 26.3 x 30.7 in enclosure.
Versus a portable generator. A portable generator has to be wheeled out, refueled and connected by hand during every outage. A home standby generator is permanently installed, runs on your gas supply and starts on its own, even when you are away or an outage lasts for days.
This May Be a Good Fit If
No. Generac specifies a 12V AGM Powersport Group BTX30L battery with at least 400 CCA. The generator includes the battery tray, cables and a positive terminal cover.
No. Cellular connectivity is standard, so Mobile Link works without your home network, and the unit can also use Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Some Mobile Link features require a premium subscription.
Oil changes run up to every 2 years or 200 hours, and the unit exercises itself on the schedule you set. Generac's spec sheet lists scheduled maintenance kit G006482-0 for this model, with oil sold separately.
Generac's 5-year limited warranty covers the generator and Generac transfer switch for 5 years or 2,000 hours. Years 1 and 2 cover parts, labor and limited travel, year 3 covers parts, and years 4 and 5 cover major engine and alternator components. The unit must be registered and serviced by an Independent Authorized Service Dealer.
The starting battery is sold separately.
The Generac Next-Gen 10kW gives your home automatic, monitored backup power on natural gas or propane, with Generac's 5-year limited warranty behind it. At Outbound Power we help you match the right generator size and transfer switch to your home. If you have questions before you order, our team is happy to help.
