Add a Transfer Switch

The Generac Next-Gen 26kW Home Standby Generator Powers Whole Homes Automatically on Natural Gas or Propane

The Generac Next-Gen 26kW (model G0073270) is an air-cooled standby generator rated for 26kW on liquid propane (LP) and 24kW on natural gas (NG). It starts on its own within seconds of a power outage, carries your home on a 997cc two-cylinder G-Force 1000 engine and shuts down after utility power returns.

It is sized for whole-house backup in homes over 2,500 square feet, where Generac's sizing guide calls for 24 to 26kW. Order it alone, or bundled with Generac's 200A service-rated automatic transfer switch with built-in surge protection.

Generac Next-Gen 26kW Home Standby Generator Features

Automatic Starts When the Power Goes Out

The Power Zone 200 controller watches utility voltage around the clock. When voltage drops below the dropout setting (75 to 80% of nominal), the generator starts, warms up and takes the load through the transfer switch. When utility power returns, it transfers back and cools down before shutting off, with no one needing to be home.

Cellular Monitoring Is Standard

A Generac Generator Connectivity Accessory with cellular service ships in the box, and the unit also has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capability. Through the Mobile Link app you can check generator status, exercise and run hours, maintenance information and monthly reports, and you can connect your account to an authorized service dealer. Some Mobile Link features require a premium subscription.

Electronic Fuel and Ignition Control

Electronic fuel and ignition control (EFIC) adjusts the engine for changing conditions. Generac says it improves fuel efficiency and lowers emissions on average compared with its Guardian Series units, and hydraulic lifters keep valve spacing set so you never adjust valves by hand.

Clean Power for Sensitive Electronics

Generac's True Power technology holds total harmonic distortion below 5%, and digital voltage regulation holds output within about 1%. That clean sine wave suits computers, smart appliances and variable-speed HVAC equipment.

Lower Maintenance and Smarter Exercise

Oil change intervals run up to 2 years or 200 hours, and an oil level sensor reports oil level for you. Smart Exercise runs the engine for 5 minutes each week by default, or bi-weekly or monthly for 5 to 20 minutes, and it skips a scheduled run if the generator already ran more than 5 minutes in the prior 72 hours.

Built for Snow, Wind and Tight Lots

A sloped roof and rear air intake reduce snow and ice intrusion, and Generac rates the sound-attenuated aluminum enclosure for winds up to 150 mph. The unit is listed by the Southwest Research Institute for installation as close as 18 in from a structure, away from doors, windows and fresh air intakes and in line with local codes.

Real-World Applications

Whole-home backup. Generac's sizing guide places 26kW in the range for a 5-ton air conditioner, kitchen, furnace, sump pump, well pump or water heater, home office and garage.

Homes with well water. Keep the well pump, water heater and sump pump running through long outages.

Work-from-home households. Keep internet, computers and the home office on clean power with less than 5% harmonic distortion.

Natural gas or propane homes. Run it on your gas service, or on an LP tank sized for full-load fuel use.

How the 26kW Compares

Versus the Generac Next-Gen 24kW and 28kW. The 24kW is rated 24kW LP / 22.5kW NG and the 28kW is rated 28kW LP / 25kW NG, against 26kW LP / 24kW NG for this model. All of them share the same 46.4 x 26.3 x 30.7 in enclosure, so the choice comes down to the load you need to carry on your fuel type.

Versus a portable generator. A portable generator has to be wheeled out, refueled and connected by hand during every outage. A home standby generator is permanently installed, runs on your gas supply and starts on its own, even when you are away or an outage lasts for days.

Is the Generac Next-Gen 26kW the Right Fit

  • Fuel. Natural gas service, or an LP tank sized for full-load fuel use. The unit is factory-configured for natural gas and is converted on site for LP.
  • Site. A level base of pea gravel, crushed stone or concrete, 3 ft of clearance at the front and ends, 18 in at the rear and 5 ft overhead.
  • Installation. Installation by a licensed electrician or authorized Generac dealer, following local codes. Installation is not included.
  • Battery. A 12V AGM Group BTX30L battery with at least 400 CCA, sold separately.

This May Be a Good Fit If

  • You want automatic whole-home backup
  • You run central air, a well pump or a home office
  • You have natural gas service or room for an LP tank
  • You want cellular monitoring included

Common Questions

Is a Battery Included?

No. Generac specifies a 12V AGM Powersport Group BTX30L battery with at least 400 CCA. The generator includes the battery tray, cables and a positive terminal cover.

Does It Need Wi-Fi to Connect?

No. Cellular connectivity is standard, so Mobile Link works without your home network, and the unit can also use Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Some Mobile Link features require a premium subscription.

What Maintenance Does It Need?

Oil changes run up to every 2 years or 200 hours, and the unit exercises itself on the schedule you set. Generac's spec sheet lists scheduled maintenance kit G007216-0 for this model, with oil sold separately.

What Is the Warranty?

Generac's 5-year limited warranty covers the generator and Generac transfer switch for 5 years or 2,000 hours. Years 1 and 2 cover parts, labor and limited travel, year 3 covers parts, and years 4 and 5 cover major engine and alternator components. The unit must be registered and serviced by an Independent Authorized Service Dealer.
