The Generac Two Wire Start Kit Lets Another Start Switch Run Your Evolution or PowerPact Home Standby Generator

The Generac Two Wire Start Kit (model G0071090, SKU 7109) is a wire kit that enables remote start, also called two-wire start, on a Generac home standby generator. Generac's instruction sheet calls it the Home Standby Remote Start Kit. You wire a start switch to the generator's controller, then turn the feature on in the controller's menu.

It is for Generac generators with an Evolution 1.0, Evolution 2.0 or PowerPact controller. Use it when you want a dry-contact start switch, or another brand's transfer switch, to start the generator.

Generac Two Wire Start Kit Features

Covers Three Generac Controllers

Generac's sheet lists the Evolution 1.0, Evolution 2.0 and PowerPact controllers. The kit has white wires for Evolution and dark blue wires for PowerPact.

Wires Matched to the Connector Lugs

The wires are supplied with terminals for the controller's mating connectors. Generac notes that kits contain different wire types, and some kits contain spare wires.

Turned On in the Controller Menu

After you add the wires, you enable the feature by setting 2 WIRE START SELECT to YES. The setting is found in the password-protected dealer edit menu of the LCD controller.

Instruction Sheet Included

Generac's instruction sheet gives step-by-step wiring and programming, including the J1 and J2 connector locations for Evolution and J5 for PowerPact.

Real-World Applications

Another Brand's Transfer Switch. Use the kit when an existing switch from another brand needs to start a Generac generator.

Start Switch Control. Run the generator from a start switch connected to the controller's two-wire start input.

Adding Remote Start Later. If your LCD controller has the feature but it is not turned on, the kit supplies the wires to complete the connection.

Practical Comparison

Versus Cutting Your Own Wire. The kit gives you the wires Generac specifies, with terminals sized for the controller connectors, so you do not have to find matching wire and terminals.

Versus Units With Two-Wire Start Built In. Generac says EcoGen units already have two-wire start, so they do not need this kit. CorePower units have no LCD screen, so the kit does not apply.

Is the Two Wire Start Kit the Right Fit

  • Controller match. Check that your generator has an Evolution 1.0, Evolution 2.0 or PowerPact controller. Units without an LCD screen do not have remote start, except PowerPact.
  • Installation. The work includes opening the controller, adding wires and using a password-protected dealer menu, so a qualified installer or Generac dealer is the right choice.
  • Limits. Generac says not to use the kit with off-grid applications, because doing so could void the warranty.

This May Be a Good Fit If

  • Your generator has an Evolution 1.0, Evolution 2.0 or PowerPact controller
  • You use a start switch or another brand's transfer switch
  • Your setup is not off-grid

Common Questions

Which Generators Does It Fit?

Generac's instruction sheet covers Evolution 1.0, Evolution 2.0 and PowerPact controllers. Check your generator's controller before you order, or ask us to confirm.

What Is in the Kit?

It contains three white wires for Evolution controllers, one each of three dark blue wires for PowerPact controllers, and the instruction sheet. Some kits include spare wires.

Does the Exercise Setting Reset?

Generac notes that the exercise function must be reset whenever the battery and T1 power are disconnected and reconnected, or the fuse is removed. The installation steps involve disconnecting the battery, so plan to reset it.
