Installing a Jackery SolarSaga 100 Light flexible solar panel on a camper trailer

The Jackery SolarSaga 100 Light Adds 100W Of Flexible Solar Power To Your RV, Boat Or Balcony

The Jackery SolarSaga 100 Light is a 100W flexible, bifacial solar panel that weighs 4.5 lb (2.05 kg) and is only 0.6 inches thick. It uses IBC solar cells that Jackery rates at 25% conversion efficiency, carries an IP68 rating and works from -40°F to 185°F.

Instead of standing on kickstands, it bends to sit on a curved RV roof, a boat deck or a balcony railing, held in place with adhesive or Jackery's suspension wire kit. A built-in 3 m (9.8 ft) cable and two included adapters connect it to the DC8020 or DC7909 solar input on Jackery Explorer and HomePower power stations.

Jackery SolarSaga 100 Light Features

100W From IBC Cells Rated At 25% Efficiency

Under standard test conditions the panel is rated at 100W ±5%, with a 24.8V open-circuit voltage and a 21.1V maximum power voltage. Its IBC (interdigitated back contact) cells place their electrical contacts on the back of each cell, which leaves the front surface clear to collect light. Jackery rates them at 25% conversion efficiency.

Bifacial Design Rated Up To 110W

The back of the panel collects light too, with a 70% bifaciality coefficient. Under Jackery's bifacial test condition (BNPI, with 135W/m² reaching the rear) it is rated at 110W ±5%. That extra output depends on light reaching the back, as when the panel hangs on a railing. Glued flat to a roof, plan on the 100W front rating.

Thin, Flexible And 4.5 Pounds

At 41.7 x 22.0 x 0.6 inches (1060 x 560 x 16 mm), it is light enough to carry under one arm and slim enough to sit almost flush on the surface it is mounted to. The panel flexes to follow the curve of a camper roof, a boat cabin or a rounded railing.

Adhesive Or Suspension Mounting

Jackery's manual covers two mounting methods. Adhesive mounting is for low, smooth surfaces such as vehicle roofs and boat decks: apply adhesive at marked points about every 8 inches (20 cm) on the back, press the panel down and let it cure for 24 hours. Suspension mounting threads rope through the panel's eyelets to hang it from a railing, using the Jackery Suspension Wire Kit. Adhesive and the wire kit are sold separately, and Jackery says not to glue the panel to walls or to the outside of high-rise buildings.

IP68 Rating And A Wide Temperature Range

The panel is IP68 rated for dust and water and operates from -40°F to 185°F (-40°C to 85°C). Jackery lists IEC TS 63163 certification, the design qualification standard for consumer solar modules, and says the panel stands up to desert sand and salty coastal air.

Built-In Cable With Jackery Adapters

A 3 m (9.8 ft) flat cable is built into the panel and ends in an Anderson connector. The included Anderson to DC8020 adapter fits Jackery's DC8020 solar input, and the Anderson to DC7909 adapter fits power stations with the DC7909 input.

5-Year Jackery Warranty

Jackery covers the SolarSaga 100 Light with a 5-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship from the date of purchase.

Real-World Applications

  • RV and van roofs. Mount it on a curved roof or sidewall to top up a Jackery power station while you travel or camp.
  • Boats. Its low profile suits cabin tops and decks. Keep the adapter ends out of spray.
  • Apartment balconies. Hang one or more panels on a railing with the suspension kit to recharge a power station for outages or everyday use.
  • Camping. At 4.5 lb it packs easily, and it can lie on a table or lean against a camper to catch the sun.

Estimated Solar Charging Times

These are Jackery's estimates for charging a power station from 0% to 80% in good sun. Real times vary with location, weather, temperature and panel angle.

Power Station 1 Panel 4 Panels
Explorer 100 Plus 1.4 hours Not listed
Explorer 300 Plus 3.8 hours Not listed
Explorer 600 v2 6.5 hours Not listed
Explorer 1000 v2 12 hours 3.2 hours
HomePower 3000 35 hours 9 hours
HomePower 3600 Plus 41 hours 10 hours
Explorer 5000 Plus 56 hours 14 hours

Running two or more panels takes Jackery's Anderson Y series or parallel connector (sold separately). We carry every power station in this table, including the Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 and the Jackery HomePower 3000.

Practical Comparison

SolarSaga 100 Light Versus Jackery's Other 100W Panels

Feature SolarSaga 100 Light SolarSaga 100W Air 100W Prime
Panel Style Flexible Foldable Rigid glass
Weight 4.5 lb 7.1 lb 13.23 lb
Bifacial Yes Yes Yes
IP Rating IP68 IP68 IP68
Made For Mounting on curves Carrying Fixed mounts

Choose the 100 Light for a panel that stays mounted on a curved surface, the Jackery SolarSaga 100W Air for a panel you fold up and carry, or the Jackery 100W Prime for a rigid panel on a bracket.

Flexible Panel Versus A Rigid Glass Panel

A rigid glass-and-aluminum panel needs a bracket or rack and adds weight to a roof, but it keeps an air gap underneath for cooling and is easier to remove. The 100 Light weighs about a third as much as the 100W Prime, and once glued down it is a more permanent install, so plan its position before the adhesive cures.

Buyer Guidance

This May Be A Good Fit If

  • You own a Jackery power station with a DC8020 or DC7909 solar input
  • You want solar on a curved RV roof, boat deck or balcony railing
  • Weight matters, as it does on a van roof or a small boat
  • You plan to add panels over time with Jackery's Y connectors

If you would rather set a panel out each morning and pack it away at night, a foldable panel may suit you better.

Common Questions

Which Power Stations Does It Work With?

Jackery lists it as compatible with almost all Jackery portable power stations, and the included adapters fit the DC8020 and DC7909 solar inputs. Jackery doesn't list other brands, so check the input connector and voltage range before using it with one.

Can I Connect More Than One Panel?

Yes. Connect two or more in series or parallel with Jackery's Anderson Y Series Connector or Anderson Y Parallel Connector (sold separately). Use panels with the same specifications. In series the voltages add, and in parallel the currents add, so keep the total within your power station's solar input limits.

Is It Waterproof?

It carries an IP68 rating. Jackery's FAQ describes this as protection from water splashes and advises against leaving the panel in the rain or soaking it. The DC8020 and DC7909 adapter ports are not waterproof, so keep those connections dry.

Does The Back Add Power When The Panel Is Glued Down?

Very little. The 110W bifacial rating assumes light reaching the back of the panel. Glued flat to a roof, it works from its front side, so expect up to its 100W rating in full sun.
