The Renogy 100/200W 12V N-Type Portable Solar Panel Suitcase Kit with 20A PWM Controller Folds Up for Travel and Charges 12V Batteries Wherever You Set It Down

The Renogy 100/200W 12V N-Type Portable Solar Panel Suitcase Kit with 20A PWM Controller is a foldable solar suitcase with two panels, tilt stands and a Voyager 20A PWM solar charge controller already installed on the back. A solar connector to alligator clips cable with a 15A fuse connects it to a 12V battery.

It's made for mobile off-grid use where space and weight matter, such as RVs, vans and campsites. You choose 100W or 200W. Renogy's manual says it supports 12V battery systems when working alone, with GEL, flooded, sealed lead-acid (SLD/AGM) and lithium iron phosphate (LI) batteries.

Renogy 100/200W 12V N-Type Portable Solar Panel Suitcase Kit with 20A PWM Controller Features

Folds Into a Carry Case

The 200W suitcase measures 34.25 x 22.83 x 3.15 in (870 x 580 x 80 mm) folded and 28.46 lb (12.91 kg). The 100W measures 27.17 x 15.59 x 3.15 in (690 x 396 x 80 mm) folded and 17.42 lb (7.9 kg). Renogy includes a protective case and a carrying handle.

Adjustable Tilt Stands

Built-in aluminum tilt stands let you set the panel angle with butterfly nuts. Renogy's manual says to adjust the angle through the seasons to follow the sun, and gives latitude minus 15° for summer, the latitude for spring and fall, and latitude plus 15° for winter.

N-Type Cells

Renogy lists up to 25% conversion efficiency for the N-Type cells and annual degradation under 0.4%. The panel ratings are Voc 21.47V and Vmp 18.65V for both sizes. The 200W is rated 11.05A at Vmp and 11.89A Isc. The 100W is rated 5.602A and 6.029A.

Voyager 20A PWM Controller With LCD

The Voyager controller comes pre-installed and has a backlit LCD that cycles through PV voltage, charging current, generated energy, battery voltage and battery temperature. It supports GEL, flooded, SLD/AGM and lithium battery types. Set the type by hand to match your battery.

Four-Stage Charging and Protections

Renogy's manual describes bulk, boost, float and equalization stages, and a lithium activation feature that is on by default when the battery type is set to LI. The controller lists protection from battery and controller overtemperature, solar and battery reverse polarity, battery overvoltage and solar input overcurrent.

IP65 Panels and Controller

Renogy rates the panels and the controller IP65 and calls them waterproof. Do not immerse the suitcase in water. The panel uses low-iron tempered glass.

Real-World Applications

Camping and RV stops. Unfold the suitcase in the sun, point it where the light is, and clip it to the battery.

Vans and trailers. Store it folded and set it up when you park.

Cabins and outdoor setups. Charge a 12V battery without fixed mounting.

Practical Comparison

Portable Suitcase Versus Roof-Mounted Rigid Panel

A rigid panel is mounted in one place. The suitcase folds away and can be moved to follow the sun or to avoid shade. Renogy says the stands help the panel capture sunlight.

100W Versus 200W

The 200W gives twice the panel power. Renogy gives the 200W's ideal daily energy as about 1 kWh, calculated from 200W and 5 hours of expected sunlight. The 100W is smaller and lighter, as the specifications show.

PWM Controller Versus MPPT Controller

A PWM controller pulls the panel voltage down to the battery voltage, which suits a panel array matched to a 12V battery as this kit is.

Buyer Guidance

Connect in the Right Order

Do not connect the suitcase directly to a battery. Always connect the controller to the battery first and then to the solar panels. Cover the suitcase before you connect it to the controller. Renogy notes that in some regions the controller arrives already connected to the panels, so block the sunlight from the front of the suitcase before you connect the battery. Wear insulating gloves when you unlatch and unfold the unit.

Match the Battery Type

Choose the battery type on the controller before you charge. Renogy warns that a wrong setting may damage the battery. Check your battery maker's specifications. For lithium batteries you also set the nominal voltage, and the default boost voltage is 14.2V.

This May Be A Good Fit If

  • You want a solar panel you can fold and carry
  • You charge a 12V battery at camp or in an RV
  • You want the controller already installed
  • You want a clip-on connection with no mounting

Common Questions

Can It Charge More Than One Battery?

Renogy says yes, if the batteries are the same type and capacity and wired in parallel.

Can I Lengthen the Cable?

Renogy says you can extend the solar connector to alligator clips cable with cable of the same size that can carry the panel's maximum current, 10A for the 100W and 15A for the 200W. Longer extensions increase line loss. Renogy recommends keeping cables to 10 meters or less.

Will It Overcharge My Battery?

Renogy says the Voyager controller provides overcharge protection.

Can Rain Damage It?

Renogy says the panels and controller are IP65 rated and waterproof, and do not immerse it.

What's Included
