The Renogy 12/24V 50A IP67 DC-DC with MPPT Battery Charger charges a 12V or 24V auxiliary battery from solar panels, from the starter battery, or from both at once. It prioritizes solar and adds alternator power when sunlight is low. Renogy rates it for 50A at 12V and 25A at 24V.

Solar-Priority Dual-Source Charging

The charger takes solar and starter battery input together and automatically adjusts its working mode to sunlight. It accepts up to 750W of solar at up to 50V, with rigid or flexible panels. Solar charging needs the panel voltage at 15.0V or higher for 10 seconds.

12V and 24V Compatibility

It supports 12V and 24V panels, starter batteries and house batteries. Built-in buck-boost conversion lets it work across mixed voltages, such as a 12V source charging a 24V battery. In lithium mode you set the voltage by hand.

Traditional and Smart Alternators

It works with traditional and smart (Euro 4) alternators. A dedicated D+/IGN terminal and wire use the engine-running signal to control charging, which helps prevent starter battery drain. Vehicles without that signal can use ALT mode, which starts and stops charging based on starter battery voltage.

IP67 Case and Heat Handling

The die-cast aluminum case carries an IP67 rating. Renogy says the charger holds full output in temperatures up to 113°F without derating. The operating range is -13°F to 158°F (-25°C to 70°C).

Built-In Bluetooth and CAN

Bluetooth is built in, so you can connect to the Renogy app, and Renogy lists RV-C and CAN communication for compatible devices. Renogy says the app shows charging status, history and alerts.

Five Battery Settings

Choose AGM/SLD, GEL, FLD, lithium (LI) or a user mode with customizable charging profiles. Renogy rates efficiency at 94% or better for 12V batteries and 92% or better for 24V batteries.

Real-World Applications

RVs and trailers. Keep a house battery topped up from rooftop solar while you camp and from the alternator while you drive.

4x4 and overland vehicles. The IP67 case and wall or floor mounting fit exposed or tight installations.

Practical Comparison

Dual-Input Charger Versus a DC-DC Only Charger

A DC-DC only charger draws from the alternator whenever it runs. This charger uses solar first and fills the gap from the starter battery, so it places less load on the alternator when the sun is out.

IP67 Case Versus an Open-Vent Charger

The sealed, die-cast IP67 case suits wet or dusty mounting spots. The manual still asks for 5.91 in (150 mm) of clearance on every side and says not to install it in a confined space where battery gases can collect.

Buyer Guidance

Fuses and Wire Size

Renogy recommends fuses on both ends. For the 50A model that is a 60A fuse on the auxiliary battery side and a 70A-80A fuse on the starter battery side. For the auxiliary battery, the manual lists 8 AWG up to 5 ft, 6 AWG for 5-10 ft and 4 AWG for 10-16 ft. For the starter battery it lists 8 AWG up to 10 ft, 6 AWG for 10-20 ft and 4 AWG for 20-30 ft. Mount the charger close to the battery.

Mounting

Mount it vertically on a wall or horizontally on a floor. Renogy strongly recommends the supplied standoffs for airflow and to protect the surface.
