The Renogy 120V 30 Amp Automatic Transfer Switch Moves Your Load Between Two Power Sources for You

The Renogy 120V 30 Amp Automatic Transfer Switch is a relay type switch rated for 30A at 120VAC and 60Hz. It sits in an ABS enclosure and switches your loads between power sources automatically, with a built-in 20 to 30 second time delay.

It is made for RV, mobile and off-grid systems that use more than one AC source, such as a generator and a power cord connection. Its labeled terminals for the control panel, the generator and the power cord make the wiring layout easy to follow for an electrician.

Renogy 120V 30 Amp Automatic Transfer Switch Features

Automatic Power Switching

The relay switches between sources without you flipping a switch. Renogy's wiring label inside the cover shows the control panel, the generator and the power cord, each with its neutral (N) and line (L) connection.

Built-In Time Delay

Renogy lists the switch type as relay with a 20 to 30 second delay. That pause gives the incoming source a moment before the switch transfers your load.

Durable ABS Build With ETL Listing

The shell is ABS plastic. Renogy lists the switch as meeting ETL standards, and its label shows the ETL mark. The switch withstands 3000 RMS symmetrical amps, according to Renogy's specifications.

Mounting and Knockouts

The enclosure has four M5 mounting holes and ten knockout holes of 0.91 inch for cables or conduit. Inside, a terminal bar and clearly marked connection points give each wire a place. The box measures 8 x 8 x 3 inches.

Real-World Applications

RV and mobile power. Switch between a generator and a power cord connection.

Off-grid cabins. Renogy lists cabin, camping, outdoor, marine and truck uses.

Backup power wiring. Let the switch handle the changeover when your main source drops out.

Practical Comparison

Automatic Transfer Switch Versus a Manual Switch

A manual switch needs you to flip it every time a source changes. This relay switch transfers on its own, after its built-in delay.

Renogy 30 Amp Versus Higher Current Needs

This switch is rated for 30A at 120VAC. Renogy says to choose a switch rated for the current your equipment needs, so check your loads against the 30A rating.

Buyer Guidance

Choosing the Right 30A Switch

Check the maximum current of the equipment you will connect and make sure the switch is rated at 30A. Also confirm that the voltage the switch supports matches your system. This one is rated for 120VAC at 60Hz.

Installation by a Qualified Electrician

Renogy says the switch involves electrical connections and must be installed to local electrical safety codes. A qualified electrician should install it. Disconnect the power supply during installation and follow the wiring diagram in the product manual. Relay and ground bar cables support 6 AWG to 14 AWG, and the switch should not sit where it is exposed to humidity or high temperatures.

This May Be A Good Fit If

  • You run a 120V, 30A AC system with two power sources
  • You want automatic switching with a built-in delay
  • You have a qualified electrician for the installation
  • You prefer a surface-mount ABS enclosure with knockouts

Common Questions

Do I need an electrician to install it?

Yes. Renogy recommends a qualified electrician, and the switch must be installed to local electrical safety codes.

What if the device fails?

Renogy says to turn the switch off and disconnect the power supply right away. Sparks or smoke may point to poor wiring, overload or an internal failure. Do not repair it yourself. Contact a professional electrician.

What wire size does it accept?

Renogy says relay and ground bar cables are supported in the 6 AWG to 14 AWG range.
