The Renogy 12V 20A AC to DC LFP Portable Battery Charger turns 100-240V AC power into a 20A charge for 12V lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries. It has a maximum output voltage of 14.6V (±0.2V) and an efficiency of 89% or higher.
It's made for LiFePO4 batteries in RVs, motorbikes, boats and camper vans. It comes with both ring terminal and alligator clip cables, so you can leave it connected or move it from battery to battery.
The charger runs a precharge stage at 3.8A, a fast charge stage at up to 20A constant current and a constant voltage stage where the current tapers off. It automatically switches between them as the battery voltage rises.
If a lithium battery's BMS has shut it off because of low voltage or low temperature, the charger's activation function helps bring it out of protection so it can charge again. Renogy says the indicator light also signals wrong charging states.
One cable ends in alligator clips for quick, portable use. The other ends in ring terminals for a secure, long-term connection. Renogy's diagram shows the DC output cables at 1.97 ft (0.6 m) and the AC power cable at 47.24 in (1.2 m).
Short circuit, over-current, over-temperature, over-voltage and reverse connection protection guard the charger and the battery. Renogy's FAQ says a blade fuse on the battery cable protects against reversed output connections.
The aluminum body dissipates heat without a fan. Renogy lists silent operation for the fanless design.
The charger has an IP65 protection rating. Mounting tabs and the included screws let you fix it in place.
RV and camper van batteries. Top up house batteries from shore power before a trip.
Boats and motorbikes. Renogy lists boats and motorbikes as uses, and the IP65 rating helps in damp spots.
Backup charging. Use it as a second charger for a 12V LiFePO4 battery when solar or alternator charging isn't enough.
A lead-acid charger uses a different voltage profile. This charger is preset for lithium iron phosphate, with a 14.6V maximum output, and Renogy says it is designed for 12V LFP batteries only.
Clips connect in seconds for occasional charging. Ring terminals bolt on for a permanent, secure connection.
The charger delivers up to 20A, so make sure your battery's maximum charge current is 20A or higher. Renogy's FAQ gives about 5 hours for a 100Ah lithium battery, for reference only. Use it only with 12V lithium iron phosphate batteries.
A slowly flashing red light means the battery is charging. A solid green light means charging is complete. The charger's input is rated for 5A maximum.
It is designed for 12V lithium iron phosphate batteries. A 12V platform can also be several small batteries wired in parallel.
Yes. The lithium battery activation function can re-activate a battery that can't charge or discharge after a BMS trip.
Slow flashing red means precharge or charging. Solid green means the charge is complete.
The Renogy 12V 20A AC to DC LFP Portable Battery Charger gives your LiFePO4 battery a three-stage, fanless charge from a standard AC outlet. If you'd like help confirming it fits your battery, the Outbound Power team is happy to help.
