Renogy 2000W pure sine wave inverter charger with LCD panel and three cyan stripes on a white background

The Renogy 2000W 12V Pure Sine Wave Inverter Charger with LCD Display Powers Your AC Loads and Charges Your 12V Battery Bank From Shore Power or a Generator

The Renogy 2000W 12V Pure Sine Wave Inverter Charger with LCD Display combines an inverter, a battery charger and an automatic transfer switch in one unit. It delivers 2000W continuous output and a 6000W surge rating for one second from a 12V battery bank. When utility or generator power is connected, it passes that power to your loads and charges the batteries at up to 65A.

It's made for RVs, boats, cabins and other 12V systems that switch between battery power and shore or generator power. An LCD and three LED indicators show system status on the unit, and the included wired remote switches it on and off from up to 16.4 ft away.

Renogy 2000W 12V Pure Sine Wave Inverter Charger with LCD Display Features

Inverter, Charger and Transfer Switch in One Unit

With AC input connected, the unit sends utility or generator power to your loads and charges the battery bank. If AC input is lost, it switches to battery power in about 10 ms. The transfer relay is rated for 20A maximum bypass.

Pure Sine Wave Output

The 120V AC output is a pure sine wave with 2000W continuous power and a 6000W surge for one second. Peak efficiency is over 90%. Output voltage can be set from 100V to 120V in 5V steps, and output frequency can be set to 50 Hz or 60 Hz.

Configurable Battery Charger

Charge current is adjustable from 5A to 65A in 5A steps. Preset battery types are Gel, AGM, sealed lead-acid, flooded, calcium and lithium, and a user-defined mode lets you set your own charge voltages. Renogy lists bulk, boost and float charge stages. Charging accuracy depends on the included battery temperature sensor, which Renogy says to connect for every battery type except lithium.

LCD Display and Wired Remote

The LCD cycles through input and output volts, battery volts, load percentage, frequency, input amps and inverter temperature. Green and red LEDs show AC or inverter mode, charging and fault or warning status. The wired remote has a 16.4 ft cable. The unit must be off to use the remote.

Utility Priority, Battery Priority and Power Saving

By default the unit uses utility power first and switches to battery in an outage. You can switch to battery priority, where the battery supplies the loads until it reaches the low voltage setpoint. Power saving mode keeps the output off until it detects a load above 50 watts.

Auto Generator Start

A dry contact relay port can start and stop a generator based on battery voltage. This needs an auto start controller installed on the generator.

Real-World Applications

RV shore power. Plug into campground power to run your loads and charge the house batteries, then run on battery when you unplug.

Boats. The unit is listed to UL 458 with marine supplement, and Renogy lists marine as an application.

Cabins with a generator. Use generator power to charge the batteries and the auto generator start option to run it when the battery gets low.

Backup power. Keep loads running through a utility outage with a switch to battery in about 10 ms.

Practical Comparison

Inverter Charger Versus an Inverter Only

An inverter only converts DC to AC. It cannot charge your batteries. This unit also charges the battery bank when AC power is connected and has the transfer switch built in, so you don't need a separate charger or transfer switch.

Pure Sine Wave Versus Modified Sine Inverter

Renogy notes that modified sine wave inverters are older technology and generally cost less, but they may cause trouble with delicate electronics or audio equipment. A pure sine wave inverter lets inductive loads such as microwave ovens and motors run faster, quieter and cooler.

Buyer Guidance

Sizing and System Voltage

This unit works only with 12V battery banks. Keep the total of the loads you run at once below 2000W, and size the battery bank for the run time you need. Renogy says to use deep cycle sealed lead-acid, flooded, gel, AGM, lithium or calcium batteries. Renogy's page lists a Bluetooth module as not compatible with this unit.

Fuse, Cable and Installation

Renogy recommends a 200A fuse and 2/0 cable on the positive DC cable, and 8 AWG copper wire for grounding. Cables are not listed in the package. Mount it on a horizontal surface in a cool, dry, ventilated spot with at least 10 inches of clearance, not in the same compartment as the batteries. The unit is hardwired. It has AC input and output cable entries and terminal blocks, not outlets. Renogy requires installation by a certified technician in line with local and national electric codes. Never connect the AC output to utility power or a generator.

This May Be A Good Fit If

  • You run a 12V battery system with shore or generator power
  • You want one unit that inverts, charges and transfers
  • You want an on-unit display and a wired remote
  • You are comfortable with a hardwired installation

Common Questions

What Is the Difference Between an Inverter Charger and an Inverter?

An inverter converts DC to AC for your appliances. An inverter charger does that and also charges and maintains the battery bank when it is connected to shore power.

Can I Use It With a 24V System?

No. This model works only with a 12V battery system.

What Is the Battery Temperature Sensor For?

The charger chooses its charging mode from battery voltage. The sensor lets it compensate for temperature so charging is more accurate. Renogy says it cannot be used with lithium batteries.

Can I Monitor It With a Bluetooth Module?

No. Renogy states that no Bluetooth module is compatible with this unit. Use the LCD or the wired remote.
