Renogy 3000W pure sine wave inverter shown with its remote control and network cable

The Renogy 3000W 12V Pure Sine Wave Inverter Delivers 3000W of Clean 115V AC and a 6000W Surge From a 12V Battery Bank

The Renogy 3000W 12V Pure Sine Wave Inverter converts DC power from a 12V battery bank into 115V, 60 Hz AC power. It is rated for 3000W continuous output and a 6000W surge for one second, with a pure sine wave output and total harmonic distortion under 3%.

It is built for vans, semi-trucks, fifth wheels, cabins, boats and other off-grid setups that need household-style power from a 12V system. Three AC outlets, a USB port, a hardwire AC terminal block and a wired remote let you plug in loads directly or feed a sub-panel.

Renogy 3000W 12V Pure Sine Wave Inverter Features

Pure Sine Wave Output

The waveform is similar to grid power, with very low harmonic distortion. Renogy says this lets the inverter supply tools, fans, lights, computers and other electronics without interference or buzzing, and that inductive loads such as motors run cooler and quieter.

3000W Continuous and 6000W Surge

The inverter is rated for 3000W continuous output (25A AC) and a 6000W surge for one second to handle start-up loads. Efficiency is over 90%, and efficiency at full load is over 85%. Power consumption is under 30W.

Three Outlets, USB and a Hardwire Terminal Block

Three 115V AC outlets supply up to 15A. A 5V/2.1A USB port charges phones and tablets. For devices above 15A, or for wiring to a sub-panel or extra outlets, use the AC terminal block under the protective cover.

Wired Remote Control

The remote switches the inverter on and off from a distance using the 5 m RJ11 cable. The inverter's ON/OFF/REM switch must be in the REM position for the remote to work.

GFCI, Protections and Status LEDs

The inverter has GFCI, overload, overtemperature, overvoltage, short-circuit and undervoltage protection. Green, yellow and red LEDs show power, GFCI and fault status, and an alarm sounds on low or high input voltage. Renogy asks that the chassis be well grounded.

Two Thermally Controlled Cooling Fans

Two ventilation fans run as the inverter needs them to keep its temperature down. The inverter operates from -4°F to 104°F (-20°C to 40°C), and its housing is metal.

Real-World Applications

Van and RV power. Run AC loads from a 12V house battery bank and mount the remote inside the living space so the inverter can stay tucked away.

Semi-trucks. Renogy shows the inverter under a seat powering a fan during long drives. Leave the clearance the manual calls for.

Boats. Renogy shows the inverter mounted on a wall in a marine setting, grounded to the chassis, for AC power from the house bank.

Cabins and off-grid sites. Pair it with a 12V battery bank and a solar charging source for AC power where there is no grid.

Practical Comparison

Pure Sine Wave Inverter Versus Modified Sine Inverter

Renogy notes that modified sine wave inverters are older technology and generally cost less. They can run many standard appliances, but may cause trouble with delicate electronics or audio equipment, and some equipment runs hotter. A pure sine wave inverter like this one costs more but works with a wider range of equipment.

Inverter Only Versus Inverter With Two AGM Batteries

Both options use the same 3000W inverter and the same remote. The Inverter Only option suits you if you already have a 12V battery bank. The other option adds two 12V 200Ah deep cycle AGM batteries, so you start with a battery bank. You still need a charging source, because this inverter does not charge batteries.

3000W Inverter Versus a Smaller Inverter

Renogy's manual covers 700W, 1000W, 2000W and 3000W models in this series. The 3000W model has a 6000W surge rating and a 400A battery fuse listing, and no cables come in the box, so check your cable and fuse plan before you buy.

Buyer Guidance

Sizing and Battery Voltage

Add up the watts of everything you will run at the same time and keep the total below 3000W continuous. Renogy's FAQ gives an example of a 500W fridge and an 800W air conditioner, which total 1300W. Watts equal volts times amps. Appliances with high start-up current can trip the inverter, so allow for the 6000W one-second surge limit. This inverter works only with 12V battery systems, not 24V. The manual lists deep-cycle sealed lead-acid, flooded, gel or lithium batteries, and Renogy's FAQ says a lithium battery works if it is rated for 12V.

Cables, Fuse and Installation

No battery cables are included. Renogy recommends 4/0 AWG cables, the thickest wire practical in the shortest length, and the manual lists a 400A battery fuse for this model. It lists 10 AWG wire for the chassis ground. Keep the inverter close to the battery bank, and mount it on a horizontal surface in a cool, dry, ventilated spot with at least 10 inches of clearance, not in the same compartment as the batteries. Renogy recommends installation by a qualified technician following local and national electric codes. Never connect the AC output to a breaker panel or load center that is also fed by the utility or a generator.

This May Be A Good Fit If

  • You have a 12V battery system
  • Your combined AC loads stay under 3000W
  • You want a remote switch for the inverter
  • You need AC outlets plus a hardwire terminal block
  • You want GFCI protection built in

Common Questions

Can I Use the Inverter With a 24V System?

No. This model works only with 12V battery systems.

Can This Inverter Charge My Batteries?

No. It only converts DC power to AC power. If you need to charge batteries from AC, look at an inverter charger instead.

Does It Work With Lithium Batteries?

Yes, as long as the lithium battery is rated for 12V applications.

Is There a Bluetooth Module for It?

No. Renogy states that no Bluetooth module is compatible with this inverter. You control it with the ON/OFF/REM switch or the wired remote.

What Can I Run on It?

Renogy says you can use loads rated 3000W or less, such as a portable freezer or a microwave, but you should avoid running devices at the same time if their combined draw is over 3000W.
