The Renogy 3000W 12V Pure Sine Wave Inverter with UPS Transfer Switch converts DC power from a 12V battery bank into 120V AC power at 3000W continuous, with a 6000W surge rating for 2 seconds. A built-in 30A UPS transfer switch moves your loads between incoming AC power and the battery, so you can use AC power when it is there and keep running on the battery when it is not.
It is made for RVs, marine setups, semi-trucks, garden sheds and backup power systems. Built-in Bluetooth shows live readings in the Renogy DC Home app, and the wired remote switches the inverter on and off from a distance.
The transfer switch is rated for 30A. Renogy's graphic shows the inverter passing AC input to your loads and saving battery power while AC is present, then switching to battery power with a listed switching time of 20 ms. Renogy does not list AC battery charging for this inverter, so plan your battery charging separately.
The inverter is rated for 3000W continuous output (25A AC) and 6000W for 2 seconds. Total harmonic distortion is 3% or less. Efficiency is over 92%, and efficiency at full load is over 87%.
Three 120V AC outlets and a 5V/2.1A USB port are on the front. An AC input and high-output terminal block, marked 30A, handles hardwired connections.
Check output voltage, output current, output frequency, battery voltage and temperature in the Renogy DC Home app. The wired remote has a 16.4 ft cable and turns the inverter on and off when the ON/OFF/REM switch is set to REM.
Two thermally controlled fans cool the unit. Protections include overtemperature, short circuit, overvoltage, undervoltage shutdown, GFCI and overload. The operating range is -4°F to 113°F (-20°C to 45°C), and Renogy lists noise under 55 dB.
Renogy lists lithium iron phosphate, sealed, AGM, gel and flooded batteries. The inverter takes 11V to 15.5V DC.
RV and van systems. Run on shore power when it is available and fall back to the house battery when it is not.
Backup power. Renogy lists backup use for work and entertainment during short outages, with the transfer switch handling the changeover.
Marine and semi-truck setups. Renogy lists marine environments and semi-trucks as uses for the UPS function.
Garden sheds. Renogy lists off-grid garden sheds as an application, powered from a 12V battery bank.
A standard inverter only runs from the battery. This model adds a 30A transfer switch that connects AC input to your loads, so you can use outside AC power and keep the battery in reserve. It also adds Bluetooth monitoring and a wired remote.
Renogy notes that modified sine wave inverters produce a rougher waveform and electrical noise that can hurt sensitive electronics. A pure sine wave inverter like this one outputs a smoother, grid-like waveform.
Keep the combined watts of the loads you run at the same time at or below 3000W. Inductive loads such as air conditioners and refrigerators have high start-up current that can trip an inverter, so plan for the 6000W surge limit. This inverter works with 12V battery systems only. This model ships without battery cables. Renogy's manual recommends 2/0 AWG cables with 3/8 in lugs, a 350A battery fuse on the positive cable and 14 N·m on the DC terminals. For the AC output, Renogy recommends a 10 AWG 3-prong cable.
The inverter measures 19.2 x 10.4 x 3.8 in. Renogy's page asks for 1.97 inches of space above the unit and at least 4 inches on the side with the busbars. Mount it where the fans are not blocked.
Yes. Renogy says it can be used in both on-grid and off-grid setups.
Yes. Bluetooth is built in. Renogy says you can monitor and control the inverter with a smartphone and view real-time power data.
Renogy says you can use loads rated 3000W or less, such as a refrigerator or microwave, but avoid running devices at the same time if their combined draw goes over 3000W.
Renogy lists overloading, high start-up current from inductive loads, short circuits and loose wiring as common causes.
The Renogy 3000W 12V Pure Sine Wave Inverter with UPS Transfer Switch gives your 12V system pure sine wave power, a 30A transfer switch and Bluetooth monitoring. If you have questions about sizing, cabling or fusing, the Outbound Power team is happy to help.
