The Renogy 400W N-Type Bifacial Solar Panel Collects Light From Both Sides for More Energy From the Same Roof or Ground Space

The Renogy 400W N-Type Bifacial Solar Panel is a 400W rigid panel with Mono N-Type cells and a transparent backsheet, so the rear side can add energy from reflected and diffused light. It has 108 cells, a 21.5% module efficiency and an IP68 rating for the junction box and connectors.

It's made for higher-output off-grid systems that need more power from fewer panels, such as cabins, sheds, farms and ground-mounted arrays. We offer it in packs of 4 (1,600W) and 6 (2,400W).

Renogy 400W N-Type Bifacial Solar Panel Features

Bifacial Boost on the Rear Side

Renogy says the panel can generate up to 30% more energy than a standard monofacial panel in reflective, elevated or rear-exposed installations. The gain depends on mounting angle, height and surface reflectivity. Renogy says the gain is greatest over sand, snow or light-colored surfaces.

N-Type Cells With Up to 25% Cell Efficiency

The panel uses Grade A+ N-Type monocrystalline cells with up to 25% cell efficiency and 16BB technology. Renogy lists a Pmax temperature coefficient of -0.32%/°C. Renogy says low degradation helps the panel hold its output over time.

Half-Cut Cells for Partial Shade

The half-cut cell parallel design splits the panel into two independent power zones. Renogy says that if one side is shaded, the other side keeps generating.

IP68 Junction Box and Connectors

The datasheet gives IP68 for the junction box and the MC4 connectors. The panel has a 3.2 mm (0.13 in) tempered glass front, an anodized aluminum alloy frame and Type I fire performance. Renogy says the frame is thickened and the glass is extra strong against hail and falling branches.

Pre-Drilled Holes and Flexible Mounting

Pre-drilled mounting holes speed up installation. Renogy says the panels install on flat roofs, ground mounts, poles or vertical surfaces. Output cables are 12 AWG, 66.93 in (1,700 mm) long.

Three Bypass Diodes and MC4 Connectors

The junction box has 3 diodes. The MC4 solar connectors are rated 1,500VDC and 40A. Renogy lists the connector range as -40°F to 185°F (-40°C to 85°C).

Warranty Backing

Renogy lists a 10-year material and workmanship warranty and a 25-year power output warranty for the panel.

Real-World Applications

Cabins and sheds. Put 1,600W or 2,400W of panels on a small roof or frame.

Farms and ground mounts. Raise and tilt the panels so the rear side sees reflected light.

Hot or snowy sites. Renogy says N-Type cells lose less power in heat than P-Type cells, and bright ground helps the rear side in snow or sand.

Practical Comparison

Bifacial Versus Monofacial Panel

A monofacial panel collects light only on its front. This panel adds a rear-side gain when the back can see light, so it suits raised or tilted mounts. Mounted flat against a roof, the rear gain is small.

N-Type Versus P-Type Cells

Renogy says N-Type cells give higher conversion efficiency, a lower temperature coefficient and lower degradation than P-Type cells.

4-Pack Versus 6-Pack

The 4-pack gives 1,600W and the 6-pack 2,400W. The panels are the same, so choose by the system size you plan.

Buyer Guidance

Plan the Array Before You Wire It

Each panel is rated Voc 39.42V, Vmp 34.0V, Isc 13.06A and Imp 11.76A. Maximum system voltage is 1,500VDC and the maximum series fuse rating is 25A. Add the Voc of panels in series and keep the total under your charge controller or inverter's limit. Mounting hardware and cables are not in the package list.

Size and Weight

Each panel is 67.8 x 44.7 x 1.4 in (1,722 x 1,134 x 35 mm) and weighs 45.42 lb (20.6 kg). A 4-pack is about 182 lb and a 6-pack about 273 lb before packaging, so plan your handling and your mounting space for 4 or 6 panels.

This May Be A Good Fit If

  • You want more output from limited space
  • You can mount the panels raised or tilted over a bright surface
  • You need a rigid panel for a cabin, shed or farm
  • You live where summers are hot

Common Questions

How Much Extra Energy Can the Rear Side Add?

Renogy says up to 30%, in reflective, elevated or rear-exposed installations. Results depend on angle, height and surface.

What Temperatures Can It Work In?

The operating range is -40°F to 185°F (-40°C to 85°C).

What Warranty Does It Have?

Renogy lists a 10-year material and workmanship warranty and a 25-year power output warranty.

How Many Panels Do I Need?

Renogy says to define your load, size the battery bank first, and then decide how many panels you need.

What's Included

  • 4 x 400W N-Type Bifacial Solar Panels

The 4-pack includes 4 panels (1,600W). The 6-pack includes 6 x 400W N-Type Bifacial Solar Panels (2,400W).

More Power From Fewer Panels

The Renogy 400W N-Type Bifacial Solar Panel gives you 21.5% module efficiency, bifacial rear-side gain, half-cut cells and IP68 connectors in a 4-pack or 6-pack. If you'd like help planning your array, the Outbound Power team is happy to help.
