The Renogy Adventurer Li 30A PWM Flush Mount Charge Controller with LCD Display is a 30A PWM solar charge controller for 12V or 24V systems. It is a negative-ground controller with a backlit LCD, a USB port on the front panel and a lithium charging mode, so it works with Sealed, Gel, Flooded and Lithium batteries.

Renogy designed it for RV and camper installs where you want the controller to sit flush in a wall. If flush mounting does not suit you, the included surface mount attachment lets you mount it on any flat surface.

Flush or Surface Mounting

The face plate sits in a wall cutout with the terminals on the back, which gives a clean look. The surface mount attachment gives you a second option, and the screws for both are included.

Backlit LCD and Two Buttons

The blue backlit LCD cycles through PV voltage, charging current, generated energy, battery voltage and battery temperature. The SELECT and ENTER buttons let you move between screens and change settings such as battery type.

Lithium Charging Mode

Select Lithium as the battery type and set the boost voltage between 12.6V and 16.0V in 0.2V steps. The controller can also apply a small charge current to wake an over-discharged lithium battery.

4-Stage PWM Charging

Charging runs through Bulk, Boost, Float and Equalization. Temperature compensation adjusts charging and discharging parameters automatically, and the controller protects against overcharging, over current, short circuit and reverse polarity.

USB Port on the Front

A 5V USB port rated up to 2.4A sits on the front panel for charging small devices.

Bluetooth Monitoring Option

The RS232 port works with the Renogy BT-1 Bluetooth module, sold separately, so you can monitor the system in the Renogy DC Home app. Ports for an optional remote temperature sensor and battery voltage sensor are also on the back.

Practical Comparison

Adventurer Li PWM Versus an MPPT Controller

PWM charging connects the panels to the battery in pulses, so panel voltage should be matched to the battery. An MPPT controller converts extra panel voltage into charge current. This PWM controller suits systems with panels matched to the battery.

Flush Mount Versus Surface Mount

Flush mounting needs a wall cutout at least 1.7 in (43 mm) deep. Surface mounting needs no cutting and uses the included attachment.

Buyer Guidance

Voltage and Wiring Limits

Solar input must not exceed 50 VDC, so check panel Voc when wiring panels in series. Maximum PV input power is 400W at 12V and 800W at 24V. Terminals take wire up to 8 AWG. Renogy's manual says to use a fuse equal to the controller rating, 30A, between the controller and the battery. Always connect the battery first and the solar panels second.

Installation Location

Install the controller indoors in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place with at least 6 in (150 mm) of clearance above and below. The front acts as a heat sink, so keep it away from heat sources. The controller is rated IP20.

Common Questions

Does It Work With 24V Systems?

Yes. Renogy lists 12V or 24V automatic recognition. For an over-discharged 24V lithium bank, set the system voltage to 24V instead of auto recognition so the activation function works.

Can It Charge Lithium Batteries?

Yes. Choose Lithium as the battery type. The default boost voltage is 14.2V and you can change it from 12.6V to 16.0V.

Does It Include Bluetooth?

No. The RS232 port works with the Renogy BT-1 module, which is sold separately.
