Black 10 ft sensor cable with a stainless steel probe and green connector from Renogy

The Renogy Battery Temperature Sensor for Renogy Solar Charge Controllers Adjusts Charging to the Temperature Around Your Battery

The Renogy Battery Temperature Sensor for Renogy Solar Charge Controllers is a remote probe on a 10 ft (3 m) cable. A stainless steel probe reads the temperature near your battery, and the charge controller uses that reading for temperature compensation.

It is made for solar systems where battery temperature changes through the year. Renogy says compensation helps the battery get an accurate, proper charge.

Renogy Battery Temperature Sensor for Renogy Solar Charge Controllers Features

Probe Reads the Air Around the Battery

Renogy says the sensor uses the ambient temperature around the battery to provide temperature compensation. The probe is stainless steel, 0.24 x 2.36 in (6 x 60 mm).

10 ft Cable and Plug-In Connector

The 22 AWG, 2-pin cable is 118 in (3 m) long, so you can place the probe at the battery while the controller sits elsewhere. The green connector plugs into the controller's Temp. terminal, and Renogy shows it plugging and unplugging without tools.

Non-Polarized Wires

The wires are non-polarized, so there is no positive or negative to match. They are insulated and protected from harsh environments, and Renogy rates the sensor for outdoor use.

Wide Compensation Range

The sensor covers -4°F to 176°F (-20°C to 80°C). It is RoHS compliant.

Real-World Applications

Seasonal temperature swings. Use it where your battery sees cold winters and hot summers, so charging follows the actual temperature.

Battery compartments. Place the probe near the battery while the controller stays in a separate spot, within the 10 ft cable length.

Practical Comparison

Temperature Sensor Versus Controller Without One

Without a sensor, the controller has no reading of the battery's surroundings. With the sensor plugged in, it uses the ambient temperature near the battery for temperature compensation.

Buyer Guidance

Check Compatibility First

Renogy lists the Adventurer 30-Li, the Adventurer 30A with a communication port, the Rover Li series and the Wanderer 30-Li. Renogy also notes the sensor is not compatible with lithium batteries, so confirm your setup with the Outbound Power team before ordering.

This May Be A Good Fit If

  • You own one of the listed Renogy charge controllers
  • Your battery sits where temperatures change through the year
  • You want the probe placed up to 10 ft from the controller
