The Renogy DC Circuit Breaker Box Gives You One Steel Enclosure to Disconnect and Protect Your Solar System Sections

The Renogy DC Circuit Breaker Box is an indoor-rated steel enclosure for centralized installation and protection of devices in a residential or commercial solar system. It has a built-in DIN rail for your protection devices and five copper busbars for PV, battery and ground connections.

It is for people building a solar system who want each section, such as panels to controller or battery to inverter, to have its own disconnect. The breakers, surge protection device and ground fault interrupter are not included, so you choose them for your system.

Renogy DC Circuit Breaker Box Features

Sectional Disconnects in One Place

Renogy says each pair of devices in the system can have its own circuit breaker. When a part of the system needs maintenance or inspection, you can disconnect only that circuit.

Built-In DIN Rail for Protection Devices

A standard DIN rail makes installing breakers easier. For solar systems, Renogy suggests two 1P miniature circuit breakers, one 2P molded case circuit breaker, one 2P surge protection device and one 2P ground fault circuit interrupter. These devices are sold separately.

Five Copper Busbars

The box holds a PV positive, PV negative, battery positive, battery negative and grounding busbar. Renogy says the copper busbars have good electrical conductivity for stable operation. The busbars have compression and lug terminals.

Steel Box With IP54 Rating

The enclosure is cold-formed steel, which Renogy describes as durable and resistant to corrosion. It has an IP54 rating and a keyed cam lock. It is rated for indoor installation only.

Knockouts and Mounting Holes

Four 1.99 in and four 1.12 in knockouts let you add strain reliefs or conduit. Mounting holes on the back fix the box to a wall.

Real-World Applications

Home solar systems. Renogy says the box is mainly used in home kits for management and safety of solar systems, installed indoors.

Commercial solar systems. Renogy rates the box for residential and commercial solar systems.

Sectional disconnects. Renogy suggests disconnects between solar panels and controller, between controller and battery, and between battery and inverter.

Practical Comparison

Breaker Box Versus Loose Breakers and Busbars

Loose parts leave you to find an enclosure, mount a rail and fit busbars. This box gives you the steel enclosure, DIN rail and busbars together, so you add only the protection devices.

Buyer Guidance

Plan Your Protection Devices

Choose breakers, a surge protection device and a ground fault circuit interrupter that match your system. Renogy's FAQ says the NEC requires a ground fault circuit interrupter.

Indoor Wall Mount Only

The box mounts vertically on a wall and is rated for indoor use. Allow room for the 19.7 x 13.8 x 7.9 in enclosure and its 22.7 lb weight.

This May Be A Good Fit If

  • You want sectional disconnects for a solar system
  • You plan to install the box indoors on a wall
  • You want copper busbars and a DIN rail in one enclosure

Common Questions

Are the Breakers Included?

No. Renogy says the breakers, ground fault interrupter and surge protection device are not included.

Can I Install It Outdoors?

No. Renogy rates the box for indoor installation and says it should be installed indoors.

How Do I Lock the Door?

Screw the black ring first, then lock it with the key. To open, use the key first, then twist the black ring.

What Warranty Does It Have?

Renogy lists a 1-year material and workmanship warranty.
