The Renogy DCC30S 12V 30A Dual Input DC-DC On-Board Battery Charger with MPPT Charges Your House Battery From Solar and Your Alternator

The Renogy DCC30S 12V 30A Dual Input DC-DC On-Board Battery Charger with MPPT charges a 12V house battery from two inputs. One input connects to your starter battery and alternator. The other connects directly to solar panels. Built-in MPPT tracking gets the most from the panels, and a built-in voltage sensitive relay keeps the starter battery and house battery isolated.

It is made for RVs, camper vans, trucks and boats that need to charge a service battery while driving or parked in the sun. It charges Flooded, Gel, AGM and Lithium batteries, and you can choose a package with a Bluetooth module or with a Bluetooth module and a Renogy ONE Core.

Renogy DCC30S 12V 30A Dual Input DC-DC On-Board Battery Charger with MPPT Features

Two Charging Inputs in One Unit

Your vehicle's alternator normally serves the starter battery first. This charger lets your solar system charge the house battery first. When solar is low, it can charge from the starter battery side instead. Maximum solar input is 30V and 400W, and maximum alternator input is 400W.

MPPT Tracking With 3-Stage Charging

Renogy lists up to 99% MPPT tracking efficiency, and charging efficiency up to 97%. Bulk, Boost and Float stages bring the battery to full charge, and equalization is available for select battery types.

Works With Traditional and Smart Alternators

Traditional alternators with 13.2 to 16 VDC output work with the built-in voltage sensitive relay. For a smart alternator (Euro 6, 12 to 16 VDC), connect the included IGN signal wire to the vehicle ignition port.

Protection and Heat Dissipation

Renogy lists battery isolation, over-voltage, battery temperature, over-current, overheat, reverse current and reverse polarity protection. A soft start circuit raises input voltage gradually.

Easy Wiring Layout

A common negative terminal brings together the solar, starter battery and house battery connections in one place.

Monitoring Options

An RS485 port connects to the Renogy BT-2 Bluetooth module, so you can monitor and adjust the charger in the Renogy DC Home app. Renogy also lists the DCC30S as compatible with the Renogy ONE Core when it is connected through the BT-2 module.

Real-World Applications

RVs and campers. Charge the house battery on the road and from rooftop solar at camp.

Camper vans and trucks. Renogy lists trucks as a use, with the service battery charged from the alternator while driving.

Boats. Renogy lists marine as a use.

Practical Comparison

DCC30S Versus a Basic Isolator Relay

A basic isolator only joins batteries. This charger adds MPPT solar input, multi-stage charging and battery-type presets.

Charger Only Versus Bluetooth and ONE Core Packages

The charger alone has no display, only LED indicators. The Bluetooth package adds a BT-2 module for phone monitoring. The ONE Core package adds a Renogy ONE Core for system monitoring.

Buyer Guidance

Fusing and Wire Size

Renogy recommends fuses on both the input and output sides. For the 30A model, the manual lists a 45 to 60A fuse from the starter battery to the charger. Renogy's fuse sheet lists a 40A fuse from the house battery to the charger and a 10 AWG wire for the output terminal, 1 to 5 m long. Fuse on the positive side only. Renogy recommends qualified personnel for installation.

Mounting

Mount it on a vertical surface indoors, away from direct sunlight and water, with at least 6 in (150 mm) of clearance above and below. Never install it in a sealed enclosure with flooded batteries.

This May Be A Good Fit If

  • You want to charge a house battery from both an alternator and solar
  • You use a 12V system with Flooded, Gel, AGM or Lithium batteries

Common Questions

What Alternators Does It Work With?

Both traditional and smart alternators. With a smart alternator, connect the IGN signal wire to the vehicle ignition port.

What Happens When the House Battery Is Full?

The built-in voltage sensitive relay lets the charger trickle charge the house battery to keep it full. It can also trickle charge the starter battery from the solar panels, and it keeps the two batteries isolated.

How Do I Set the Battery Type Without a Display?

Press the battery type button on the PV+ and ALT+ side of the charger. Each press changes the LED color, and each color stands for one battery type. The manual lists the colors.
