The Renogy Flex ShadowFlux 100/200W Anti-Shading N-Type Flexible Solar Panel (All Black) is a thin flexible panel with N-Type TOPCon cells and ShadowFlux anti-shading technology. It is 0.10 in (2.5 mm) thick and comes in 100W and 200W sizes, each sold as a single panel.
It's made for curved or space-limited surfaces such as RVs, boats, teardrop trailers and balconies. Renogy says ShadowFlux helps reduce power loss and hot-spot risk when trees, antennas, masts or snow shade part of the panel.
ShadowFlux uses up to 30 cell-level bypass diodes to bypass shaded cells. In Renogy's lab test of a 200W panel under simulated partial shading, the panel kept up to 85% of its output. Renogy says actual output varies with installation and conditions. Renogy recommends keeping more than half of the panel surface in direct sunlight.
The panel uses up to 18BB Grade A+ N-Type TOPCon cells with up to 25% cell efficiency. Renogy says they give lower degradation and reduced crack risk, and hold up better as rooftop temperatures rise. It also says to pair the panel with an MPPT controller for better charging performance.
Renogy says the panel bends up to 270° vertically along its long axis. Horizontal bending is limited on purpose to protect the cells from micro-cracks. That lets it follow curved RV roofs and boat surfaces.
The 100W is 37.09 x 24.13 x 0.10 in (942 x 613 x 2.5 mm) and weighs 4.19 lb (1.90 kg). The 200W is 62.20 x 27.40 x 0.10 in (1,580 x 696 x 2.5 mm) and weighs 7.72 lb (3.50 kg). Renogy says one person can carry and install it.
Renogy uses TPO instead of ETFE for greater moisture resistance and flexibility, and says its UV absorption resists yellowing and aging. Dual glass-fiber reinforcement resists vibration and flexing. The panel is rated IP68 and for up to 5,400Pa of snow load and 2,400Pa of wind load.
Renogy shows the panel held with mounting straps through its grommets or with adhesive, with no drilling. To keep adhesive off a painted roof, Renogy suggests a compatible paint protection film or removable vinyl layer, or a roof rack platform that the panel attaches to.
RV and trailer roofs. Follow a curved roofline without a rigid frame.
Boats. Fit a curved cabin top or bimini where rigging and sails cast moving shade.
Balconies and compact setups. Hang or mount a thin panel where a rigid panel won't fit.
A rigid panel has an aluminum frame and glass. This panel is 0.10 in thick and bends. Renogy's general installation manual says flexible panels have inferior heat dissipation, performance and longevity compared with rigid panels and are not recommended on standard residential roofs.
Renogy compares ShadowFlux's up to 30 cell-level bypass diodes with 4 standard bypass diodes on a typical panel, where minor shading can cause major loss.
Renogy lists the 100W as compatible with 12V and 24V systems and the 200W as compatible with 12V, 24V and 36V systems. The 200W is larger and heavier, so check your mounting space.
The 100W is rated Voc 33.6V, Isc 3.66A, Vmp 28.8V and Imp 3.48A. The 200W is rated Voc 44.1V, Isc 5.57A, Vmp 37.8V and Imp 5.29A. Both list 600V maximum system voltage and a 10A maximum series fuse rating. Match the panel to your controller's limits.
Renogy's general installation manual says the installed bend angle should be 30° or less and that flexible panels need adhesive contact lines and a ventilation gap, with at least 6 adhesive contact lines on corrugated roofs. Check that guidance before mounting on a curved surface.
No. Renogy says it bends up to 270° vertically along its long axis, and limits horizontal bending to protect the cells.
Renogy gives an example of about 500 watt-hours a day under ideal conditions of about 5 peak sun hours. Real output varies with weather, location, shading and angle.
The operating range is -40°F to 185°F (-40°C to 85°C).
Renogy lists a 3-year warranty in its specification table.
The Renogy Flex ShadowFlux 100/200W Anti-Shading N-Type Flexible Solar Panel (All Black) gives you a thin, bendable panel with anti-shading technology and IP68 protection. If you'd like help choosing between 100W and 200W, the Outbound Power team is happy to help.
