The Renogy Rover 100A MPPT Solar Charge Controller is a 100 A, off-grid controller that detects your battery system voltage on its own. It supports up to 1300 W of solar at 12V, 2600 W at 24V, 3900 W at 36V and 5200 W at 48V, and it works with sealed, gel, flooded and lithium deep cycle batteries.
It is made for large solar projects, both mobile and stationary. If one controller is not enough, Renogy lets you connect two Rover 100A controllers in parallel for a total of 200 A, using the paralleling cable in the box.
Connect the battery and the controller determines the system voltage. Renogy states this applies to non-lithium batteries. You can also set the voltage by hand in the menu.
The controller tracks the array's maximum power point as weather conditions change. Renogy rates tracking efficiency above 99% and peak conversion efficiency at 98%, so more of your panel output reaches the battery.
Choose sealed, gel, flooded, lithium or a user-defined profile. Lead-acid batteries get a 4-stage algorithm. Lithium uses a 2-stage algorithm. In user and lithium modes you can set your own charging voltages.
Electronic protection covers reverse polarity, overcharging, over-discharging, overload, short circuit and reverse current. The controller also reduces charging current when its heat sink passes 65°C. It switches itself off above 80°C.
The LCD and four LED indicators show PV and battery data, charge status, charge totals and error codes. The included remote temperature sensor lets the controller adjust charging to battery temperature.
The RS232 port works with the Renogy BT-1 Bluetooth module and the RS485 port works with the BT-2 module. Either one pairs with the Renogy DC Home app to watch and adjust the system from your phone. Both are sold separately.
Large off-grid cabins and sheds. Charge a 48V battery bank from up to 5200 W of panels with a single controller.
RVs and vans with big arrays. Handle up to 1300 W of solar on a 12V system without splitting the array across several smaller controllers.
Growing systems. Start with one controller and add a second Rover 100A in parallel later for 200 A.
An MPPT controller steps panel voltage down to battery voltage and turns the difference into extra charge current. A PWM controller cannot do that, so it needs panels matched to the battery voltage.
Both options use the same controller. The ONE Core option adds a Renogy ONE Core and a Bluetooth module, which gives you a touchscreen display and remote monitoring through the DC Home app.
Maximum solar input is 150 VDC at 25°C and 140 VDC at -25°C. Use the panels' open circuit voltage (Voc) to check your string before wiring. Always connect the battery first and the solar panels second.
Renogy's manual says to fuse the controller-to-battery line at the controller's current rating, which is 100 A here, and to use wire sized for that current. The maximum terminal size is 25 mm2 (4 AWG). Leave at least 6 inches (150 mm) of clearance above and below, and never install it in a sealed enclosure with flooded batteries.
Yes. It has a lithium setting with a 2-stage charge, and it can wake up an over-discharged lithium battery by applying a small charge current. Automatic voltage detection applies to non-lithium batteries, so set the system voltage yourself for lithium.
Renogy states you can connect two Rover 100A controllers in parallel for 200 A. Use the included paralleling cable.
The BT-1 connects to the RS232 port and the BT-2 connects to the RS485 port. Both work with the DC Home app.
Renogy lists a 3-year material and workmanship warranty.
The Controller Only option includes the items above. The With Renogy ONE Core option adds a Renogy ONE Core and a Bluetooth module.
The Renogy Rover 100A MPPT Solar Charge Controller gives large 12V to 48V systems one controller with room to grow. Questions about sizing your array or choosing an option? The Outbound Power team is happy to help.
