The Renogy Rover 60A MPPT Solar Charge Controller Charges 12V to 48V Batteries and Powers a Small DC Load

The Renogy Rover 60A MPPT Solar Charge Controller is a 60 A, negative ground controller for off-grid solar systems. It detects 12V, 24V, 36V and 48V systems for non-lithium batteries and handles AGM, sealed, flooded, gel, lithium and user-defined battery types.

It suits RVs, boats, sheds, cabins and other off-grid systems that need more charge current than a small controller offers. It also has load terminals for a DC load up to 20 A.

Renogy Rover 60A MPPT Solar Charge Controller Features

Up to 3200W of Solar on a 48V Battery

Maximum solar input is 800 W at 12V, 1600 W at 24V, 2400 W at 36V and 3200 W at 48V. Maximum solar input voltage (Voc) is 145 V, so check your panel string before you wire it.

MPPT Tracking Above 99%

The controller follows the array's maximum power point automatically. Renogy rates tracking efficiency above 99% and conversion efficiency up to 98%.

Four-Stage Charging and Lithium Wake-Up

Non-lithium batteries charge in bulk, boost and float, with equalization available. Lithium batteries charge in bulk and boost. If a lithium battery's protection circuit has shut it down, the controller can send a small current to bring it out of protection.

Load Terminals With Timer Control

Connect a DC load of 20 A or less directly to the load terminals. Renogy lists Auto On/Off, Timer, Manual, Test and Always On modes. Avoid connecting DC devices with motors to the load terminals.

Protection and Heat Control

Electronic protection covers reverse polarity, overcharging, over-discharging, overload, short circuit and reverse current. A die-cast aluminum heat sink carries heat away from the electronics.

Parallel Expansion and Bluetooth Monitoring

You can connect multiple Rover 60A controllers in parallel to expand the system. Add a Renogy BT-1 or BT-2 Bluetooth module, sold separately, to watch and adjust settings in the Renogy DC Home app.

Real-World Applications

RVs and vans. Charge a 12V or 24V house bank from a rooftop array and run a small DC load from the load terminals.

Cabins and sheds. Charge a 24V or 48V bank with up to 3200 W of panels at 48V.

Lithium battery banks. Use the lithium setting and the wake-up function with batteries that have a battery management system.

Practical Comparison

Rover 60A Versus a PWM Controller

An MPPT controller converts higher panel voltage into extra charge current at the battery. A PWM controller passes panel output straight through, so panel voltage must match the battery.

Rover 60A Versus a Smaller Controller

At 60 A, one Rover handles larger arrays and larger battery banks. Parallel mode lets you add another Rover 60A later.

Buyer Guidance

Wiring and Fusing

Renogy says a qualified electrician should install and service the controller. Connect the battery before the solar panels. Renogy's manual shows a 75 A ANL fuse on the battery line and sizes the solar panel fuse at the array's short circuit current (Isc) times 1.56. Keep cables other than communication cables under 10 meters (32.8 feet). Maximum terminal size is 4 AWG.

Mounting

Leave 5.91 inches (150 mm) of clearance around the controller. Never install it in a sealed enclosure with flooded batteries. Its enclosure rating is IP32, so keep it dry.

This May Be A Good Fit If

  • You need a 60 A charge controller for a 12V to 48V system
  • You want a DC load output with timer control
  • You use lithium batteries and want a wake-up function
  • You plan to add Bluetooth monitoring

Common Questions

Does It Detect 24V Lithium Batteries Automatically?

No. Automatic voltage detection applies to non-lithium batteries. Renogy says a manual setting is required for a 24V lithium battery.

Is Bluetooth Included?

No. Renogy's image states the Bluetooth module is not included. The controller has RS232 and RS485 ports for the BT-1 or BT-2. Install only one.

Can I Use a Temperature Sensor?

Yes. A battery temperature sensor is included. Renogy's manual says the temperature sampling interface can only be used with lead-acid batteries.
