The Renogy Rover Li 20A MPPT Solar Charge Controller is a compact 20 A controller for off-grid solar systems. It detects 12V and 24V systems for non-lithium batteries, supports lithium batteries with a manual voltage setting, and has an RS485 port for Bluetooth monitoring.
It fits smaller arrays on RVs, vans and cabins. Renogy rates it for up to 260 W of solar on a 12V battery and 520 W on a 24V battery, with solar input up to 100 V.
Connect the battery and the controller detects a 12V or 24V system for non-lithium batteries. Lithium batteries need a manual voltage setting. It works with AGM, sealed, flooded, gel, lithium and user-defined battery types.
Add the Renogy BT-2 Bluetooth module to the RS485 port and pair it with the Renogy DC Home app to watch charging data and change settings from your phone. One option includes the BT-2. The Controller Only option does not.
The controller follows the array's maximum power point as sunlight and temperature change. Renogy rates tracking efficiency above 99% and conversion efficiency up to 98%.
Lead-acid batteries charge in bulk, boost and float, with equalization available. Lithium batteries charge in bulk and boost. If a lithium battery's protection has shut it down, the controller can send a small current to wake it.
Connect a DC load of 20 A or less to the load terminals. Renogy lists Auto On/Off, Timer, Manual, Test and Always On modes.
Electronic protection covers reverse polarity, overcharging, over-discharging, overload, short circuit and reverse current. The included temperature sensor lets the controller adjust charging to the battery.
RVs and vans. Charge a 12V house battery from a rooftop array and run a small DC load from the load terminals.
Cabins and sheds. Keep a 12V or 24V battery bank charged from a modest array.
Boats and camping setups. Charge a small house battery on a boat or camping rig. Renogy says a qualified electrician should install a controller on a boat.
An MPPT controller converts higher panel voltage into extra charge current at the battery, so panels do not have to match battery voltage. A PWM controller passes panel output straight through.
Both options use the same 20 A controller, temperature sensor and brackets. The Bluetooth option adds a BT-2 module, which links the RS485 port to the DC Home app.
Stay within the solar input limits Renogy lists. Check your string's open circuit voltage (Voc) against the 100 V limit before wiring, and connect the battery before the solar panels.
For the battery fuse, Renogy's manual recommends 25 A to 30 A for this model. Renogy recommends a solar panel fuse sized at the array's total amps times 1.56. For solar input and battery output, the manual recommends 12 AWG for runs of 0 to 10 ft, 10 AWG for 11 to 20 ft and 8 AWG for 21 to 30 ft. Fuses on both the input and output sides are recommended.
No. Automatic detection applies to non-lithium batteries. For lithium, set the battery type to Li and set the nominal voltage yourself. Renogy says lithium activation needs at least 16 V of solar input on a 12V system and at least 30 V on a 24V system.
The RS485 port works with the Renogy BT-2 Bluetooth module. The With Bluetooth Module option includes it, and the Controller Only option does not.
Renogy rates the maximum combined solar input at 260 W for a 12V battery system and 520 W for a 24V system, with panel voltage up to 100 V.
The Controller Only option includes the items above. The With Bluetooth Module option adds 1 x Renogy BT-2 Bluetooth Module.
The Renogy Rover Li 20A MPPT Solar Charge Controller gives 12V and 24V systems MPPT charging, a DC load output and optional Bluetooth monitoring in a small housing. Questions about sizing or options? The Outbound Power team is happy to help.
