The Renogy Rover Li 40A MPPT Solar Charge Controller is a 40 A controller for 12V and 24V off-grid systems. Renogy rates it for up to 520 W of solar on a 12V battery and 1040 W on a 24V battery.
It suits RVs, yachts, cabins and camping setups. You can buy it as the controller alone, with a BT-2 Bluetooth module, or with a BT-2 module and a Renogy ONE Core.
The controller detects a 12V or 24V system for non-lithium batteries. Lithium batteries need a manual voltage setting. Set the battery voltage before you connect the controller.
The RS485 port works with the Renogy BT-2 Bluetooth module, which pairs with the Renogy DC Home app. Two options include the BT-2. The top option adds a Renogy ONE Core.
MPPT tracking follows the array's maximum power point as conditions change. Renogy rates tracking efficiency above 99% and conversion efficiency up to 98%.
Lead-acid batteries charge in bulk, boost and float, with equalization available. Lithium batteries charge in bulk and boost. Renogy says it can start a 0 V lithium battery with a small current that brings it out of BMS protection.
Connect a DC load of 20 A or less to the load terminals. Renogy lists Auto On/Off, Timer, Manual, Test and Always On modes.
Protection covers reverse polarity, overcharging, over-discharging, overload and short circuit, plus reverse current and temperature compensation. The included sensor adjusts charging to battery temperature.
RVs and vans. Charge a 24V house bank from up to 1040 W of panels, or a 12V bank from up to 520 W.
Cabins and sheds. Power a cabin's 12V or 24V battery bank and run a small DC load from the controller.
Boats and camping setups. Charge the house battery on a yacht or camping rig.
PWM controllers pass panel output directly to the battery, so panel and battery voltage must match. An MPPT controller converts extra panel voltage into charge current.
All three options use the same 40 A controller, sensor and brackets. The Bluetooth option adds a BT-2 module, and the ONE Core option adds a Renogy ONE Core as well.
Stay within the solar input limits Renogy lists. Check your string's open circuit voltage (Voc) against the 100 V limit before wiring, and connect the battery before the solar panels.
For the battery fuse, Renogy's manual recommends 40 A to 50 A for this model. Renogy recommends a solar panel fuse sized at the array's total amps times 1.56. The manual recommends 8 AWG for runs of 0 to 10 ft, 6 AWG to 8 AWG for 11 to 20 ft and 6 AWG for 21 to 30 ft, on both solar input and battery output. Fuses on both the input and output sides are recommended.
No. Automatic detection applies to non-lithium batteries. For lithium, set the battery type to Li and set the nominal voltage yourself. Renogy says lithium activation needs at least 16 V of solar input on a 12V system and at least 30 V on a 24V system.
It includes the controller, a Renogy BT-2 Bluetooth module and a Renogy ONE Core, which Renogy describes as an energy monitoring and analysis device with a built-in screen. Its user manual is listed on this page.
Renogy rates the maximum combined solar input at 520 W for a 12V battery system and 1040 W for a 24V system, with panel voltage from 15 V to 100 V.
The Controller Only option includes the items above. The Bluetooth option adds 1 x Renogy BT-2 Bluetooth Module. The Bluetooth and Renogy ONE Core option adds 1 x Renogy BT-2 Bluetooth Module and 1 x Renogy ONE Core.
The Renogy Rover Li 40A MPPT Solar Charge Controller offers 40 A of MPPT charging, a DC load output and three package options for monitoring. Not sure which option suits your system? The Outbound Power team is happy to help.
