The SunGold Power 48V 100AH Lithium Battery Self-Heating Server Rack is a 51.2V, 100Ah LiFePO4 battery (model SGH48100T) that stores 5.12kWh. It is a compact 3U pack with a built-in heater that uses charge current to warm the battery from temperatures as low as -13°F.
SunGold designed it for home energy storage and small commercial and industrial systems, including those in cold zones. It is UL1973 certified, talks to many inverter brands over RS485 or CAN, and can be paralleled up to 32 units as your storage needs grow.
The heater works between -13°F and 41°F (-25°C to 5°C) when the charge current is at least 0.08C, and it shuts off once the battery reaches 53.6°F (12°C). Between 14°F and 41°F, the heater runs while the battery charges at low current. Below 14°F, all charging current goes to the heater until the battery warms up. Heating does not count against the state of charge.
Each pack holds 5.12kWh, with 4.92kWh usable. It supports up to 96% depth of discharge in off-grid and backup systems, so more of the stored energy reaches your loads.
Up to 32 packs can be connected in parallel. Automatic dynamic addressing assigns each pack in the chain, and a built-in pre-charge circuit limits rush current when the bank connects to an inverter or charger.
The battery communicates over RS485 and CAN. SunGold lists compatibility with Growatt, Deye, Sol-Ark, SunGoldPower, Luxpower, EG4, Victron Energy, Schneider, SMA, Solis and more. DIP switches on the master battery select the inverter protocol.
A rapid shutdown function is built in for the North American market, through the dry contact port. The dry contacts also provide charge enable and discharge enable signals.
SunGold rates the battery for over 7000 deep cycles, a design life of up to 15 years and a 10-year warranty. The BMS protects against overcharge, over-discharge, over-current, short circuits and high or low temperature.
The 3U pack measures 19.3 x 17.3 x 5.2 inches and has front handles. Rack mounting hardware, power cables, a grounding cable and a battery-to-battery communication cable are included, so it arrives ready for installation.
Cold-climate homes. Store solar energy for evenings and outages in places where the battery area gets cold in winter.
Off-grid cabins. Use the heater to keep accepting solar charge on cold mornings, then draw up to 96% of capacity at night.
Backup power systems. Pair with a compatible hybrid inverter to carry key loads through grid outages.
Small commercial and industrial storage. Stack packs in a rack and parallel up to 32 units as demand grows.
Versus a server rack battery without heating. A battery without heating relies on low-temperature protection, which blocks charging until the cells warm up. This model uses charge current to warm itself to 53.6°F, so a cold system can start charging sooner.
Versus a wall-mounted battery. A 3U rack battery installs in a rack or cabinet, so several packs share one footprint. A wall-mounted battery needs its own section of wall for each unit.
Versus a lead-acid bank. This battery adds a built-in BMS, closed-loop inverter communication and self-heating, with over 7000 rated cycles.
This may be a good fit if
Below 14°F, charging current goes only to the heater until the battery rises above 14°F. From there up to 41°F, the heater runs while the battery charges at low current. The heater turns off at 53.6°F and normal charging continues.
That is normal. The BMS charges slowly near full to protect cycle life, and it calibrates to 100% when it reaches cut-off. Floating the battery for about 0.5 to 1 hour calibrates the state of charge.
Daisy-chain the communication cables from Link Out to Link In, and connect the master battery to the inverter. The positive and negative inverter cables must not both come from the same battery, or the packs will share current unevenly.
Absorption voltage 56.0V, float voltage 54.6V and low voltage cut-off 48.0V. For off-grid use, the low SOC cut-off is 4%.
