The AIMS Power 60 Amp MPPT Solar Charge Controller Harvests More Energy From Your Solar Array for 12, 24, 36 and 48 Volt Systems

The AIMS Power 60 Amp MPPT Solar Charge Controller uses a smart Maximum Power Point Tracking algorithm to produce the maximum available power from your PV array, operating at 97.5% to 99% efficiency with less power loss. The tracking algorithm is automatic and adjusts as weather conditions change. It charges 12, 24, 36 and 48 volt battery systems with 4-stage charging that adjusts to your battery type, including lithium, and handles up to 60 amps of charging current from arrays with open circuit voltage up to 150 volts. An LCD, LED status indicators, an RS485 port for computer monitoring and an included battery temperature sensor make it a capable controller for off-grid homes, cabins and larger mobile systems.

AIMS Power 60 Amp MPPT Solar Charge Controller Features

MPPT Technology for Maximum Energy Harvest

Maximum Power Point Tracking produces the maximum available power from your PV array to the battery bank by operating at the peak power point of the I-V curve. AIMS Power lists efficiency at up to 99%.

Supports 12, 24, 36 and 48 Volt Systems

Rated PV input is 800 watts at 12 volts, 1700 watts at 24 volts, 2400 watts at 36 volts and 3400 watts at 48 volts. A 150 volt maximum open circuit input lets you wire panels in series for lower current and smaller wire runs.

4-Stage Charging for Every Battery Type

Bulk, absorption, float and equalize stages keep batteries healthy. The battery type selector covers gel, sealed, AGM, flooded and lithium batteries, and a user-defined setting allows adjustable charge voltages from 10 to 15 volts.

Detailed LCD and LED Monitoring

The LCD displays battery voltage and capacity, solar panel voltage and wattage, solar charging current, kWh produced, battery charge mode and DC load current. LED indicators show charging status and faults, and users can revise default parameters to match system design.

RS485 Computer Monitoring

An RS485 connection block allows computer monitoring of all charge controller functions.

Temperature Compensation With Included Sensor

The included battery temperature sensor provides temperature compensation protection for more accurate charging as conditions change.

Fanless Heatsink Cooling and Rugged Construction

Quality heatsink cooling means no fans are needed and no thermal derating. The rugged metal case is rated IP43, the electronics are conformal coated for marine environments, and protections include over temperature, overload, short circuit, and high and low voltage.

Load Control and Stackable Design

PV input, battery output and load control ports are built in, including a 60 amp DC load port. AIMS Power also lists the controller as stackable.

Real-World Applications

Off-grid homes and cabins. Charge large 24 or 48 volt battery banks from multi-panel arrays.

Backup power systems. Keep backup battery banks charged from solar between outages.

Mobile and marine systems. Conformal coating and fanless cooling suit RVs, boats and work vehicles with larger arrays.

Remote sites. Use RS485 monitoring to keep track of system performance.

How It Compares to Common Alternatives

Versus PWM controllers. PWM controllers are simpler and cost less, but MPPT tracking draws more usable power from the array, especially with higher voltage panels wired in series.

Versus the AIMS Power 80 amp MPPT controller. The 80 amp model raises rated PV input to 1200 watts at 12 volts and 4800 watts at 48 volts. Choose this 60 amp model when your array fits within 800 to 3400 watts, depending on system voltage.

Versus fan-cooled controllers. Heatsink cooling removes the fan as a point of wear and avoids thermal derating.

Is This MPPT Charge Controller the Right Fit

  • Array voltage. Maximum PV open circuit voltage is 150 volts. PV operating voltage must be 15 to 150 volts at 12 volts, 34 to 150 volts at 24 volts, 50 to 150 volts at 36 volts or 60 to 150 volts at 48 volts.
  • Array size. Keep your array within the rated PV input for your battery voltage.
  • Size and weight. The controller measures 14.5" L x 10.5" W x 4.5" H and weighs 15.5 pounds. It has 1.25" wire knockouts.
  • Environment. The operating range is -13°F to 140°F (-25°C to 60°C), and the enclosure is rated IP43.

This may be a good fit if

  • You run a 12, 24, 36 or 48 volt battery bank with a sizable solar array
  • You want to wire panels in series at up to 150 volts open circuit
  • You want detailed LCD readings and computer monitoring
  • You use lithium or lead-acid batteries
