The AIMS Power Hybrid Inverter Charger With 4600 Watt Output and 6900 Watt Solar Input Puts You in Control of Your Solar, Batteries and Grid Power

The AIMS Power Hybrid Inverter Charger With 4600 Watt Output and 6900 Watt Solar Input combines a 4.6 kW pure sine inverter, a built-in solar charge controller and a battery charger in one unit listed to UL standards. It accepts up to 6.9 kW of solar input, works with high voltage lithium or lead battery banks, connects to the grid and switches to battery backup in less than 10 milliseconds when the grid goes down. AIMS Power describes it as the conductor for every power source in your home. You can program it to power your house with solar first, charge batteries first or send excess energy back to the utility, charge from a generator, and monitor everything from anywhere with the mobile app. It is rated IP65 and NEMA 4X for outdoor installation and backed by a 10 year warranty.

AIMS Power 4600 Watt Hybrid Inverter Charger Features

Solar, Battery and Grid in One Unit

The hybrid inverter includes a built-in charge controller and charger, so one product manages solar panels, battery storage, the utility grid and a backup generator.

Programmable Operating Modes

The digital touch screen offers three simple modes:

  • Self-Use. Solar powers your loads first, excess recharges the battery bank, and remaining energy goes to the grid.
  • Selling First. Solar powers your loads first and excess energy goes to the grid.
  • Charge First. Solar charges the battery bank first, then powers loads, with remaining energy going to the grid. Solar and grid can both recharge batteries when solar alone is not enough.

Automatic Backup When the Grid Goes Down

When the grid fails, the inverter switches over to batteries with a switching time of less than 10 milliseconds. An isolated emergency backup output serves defined loads.

High Voltage Solar and Battery Inputs

Direct PV input accepts up to 6.9 kW with a maximum PV voltage of 660 volts and an MPPT range of 80 to 550 volts. The battery port supports lithium and lead batteries from 80 to 495 volts, with customizable DC input voltage for different battery types. AIMS Power notes the higher operating voltage puts less stress on the system.

Generator Input and Time-Based Charging

A 240 volt generator input lets you charge batteries from a generator instead of the grid or solar. Charge and load times can be configured based on local utility recommendations, such as charging from the grid when rates are low.

Monitoring and Communication

A large 5 inch color display, RS485, CAN, Wi-Fi and 4G connectivity, and a mobile app for remote monitoring keep you informed wherever you are.

Extensive Safety Features and Listings

Protections include PV and battery reverse polarity, over current and over voltage, anti-islanding, AC short circuit, residual current detection, ground fault monitoring, insulation resistance detection, PV arc detection and rapid shutdown. AIMS Power lists the unit to UL 1741-SA, CSA 22.2 No. 107-01, UL 1998 and UL 1699B, and it meets FCC Part 15 Class B.

Stackable and Outdoor Rated

Up to 6 units can be stacked for larger systems, and the IP65, NEMA 4X enclosure is rated for outdoor installation.

Real-World Applications

Adding batteries to home solar. Store solar energy for use at night or during outages instead of sending all of it to the grid.

Reducing electric bills. AIMS Power notes the hybrid inverter can reduce or eliminate electric bills by letting you decide how your solar power is used.

Whole-home backup. Keep defined loads running automatically when the grid goes down.

EV charging from solar or batteries. AIMS Power notes you can charge an electric vehicle from batteries or solar when you get home.

How It Compares to Common Alternatives

Versus grid-tie only solar inverters. Grid-tie inverters send excess power to the utility and typically cannot supply power during an outage. This hybrid inverter adds battery storage and automatic backup.

Versus separate components. Instead of a separate inverter, charge controller and charger, this unit combines all three, and AIMS Power notes its matched kits come from the same manufacturer for simpler support.

Versus the other AIMS Power hybrid model. AIMS Power also offers a 9600 watt model, which accepts up to 15 kW of solar input. Choose based on your load and array size.

Is This Hybrid Inverter the Right Fit

  • Battery voltage. The battery port operates from 80 to 495 volts, with a nominal battery voltage of 230 volts. It is designed for high voltage battery banks, not 12, 24 or 48 volt banks.
  • Grid connection. Grid and backup output are 240 volt or 208 volt split phase, not 3 phase.
  • Solar array. Maximum PV input is 6.9 kW across 2 MPPT inputs, with a 660 volt maximum PV voltage.
  • Professional installation. Grid-tied systems require qualified installation and utility approval.

This may be a good fit if

  • You want to add battery backup to a home solar system
  • You want programmable control over solar, battery and grid power
  • You use high voltage lithium or lead batteries
  • You want outdoor rated, UL listed equipment with remote monitoring

Common Questions
