The BigBattery NEXUS 2 is a 51.2V, 314Ah lithium iron phosphate battery that stores 16.08kWh in a single floor-standing cabinet. It is built for off-grid homes, cabins and backup power systems where you want a large amount of storage without mounting batteries on a wall or building a rack.
NEXUS 2 keeps the same form factor as the original NEXUS while raising capacity from 15kWh to 16kWh. Each unit rolls into place on locking casters, shows its state of charge on a front LED display, and connects to your inverter through power terminals and RS485, CAN and RJ45 communication ports on the top panel. A built-in battery management system, a self-heating function and integrated aerosol fire suppression protect the cells, and up to 15 units can run in parallel for up to 240kWh of storage.
BigBattery backs NEXUS 2 with a 12-year warranty and lifetime USA-based technical support, and it ships from Texas.
With 314Ah at 51.2V nominal, one NEXUS 2 holds 16.08kWh, enough to carry a typical off-grid household through the evening and night or keep essential circuits running through an outage.
The battery supplies 150A continuously, about 7.6kW, with a peak of 270A for one second to handle motor and compressor start-up surges. It accepts up to 140A of charge current, so a large solar array or generator can refill it quickly.
BigBattery rates the NEXUS 2 for more than 8,000 cycles at 80% depth of discharge. Cycled once a day, that is well over 12 years of use, and LiFePO4 chemistry is far more thermally stable than other lithium-ion types.
The integrated battery management system monitors voltage, current and temperature and protects against over-discharge, overcurrent, short circuits and high and low temperatures.
The battery charges from 32°F to 113°F and discharges from -4°F to 113°F. Its self-heating function helps it keep charging in cold cabins, garages and sheds.
Each cabinet includes a built-in aerosol fire suppression system, an added layer of safety for batteries installed inside a home or outbuilding.
Connect up to 15 NEXUS 2 batteries in parallel on one inverter system. Set each battery address with its DIP switch and link them through the RS485 parallel port. BigBattery also says NEXUS 2 can run in parallel with its KONG and GRIZ batteries purchased from 2019 to 2024.
Locking casters let you roll the battery into position and hold it steady. The LED display shows charge percentage at a glance, and the power terminals and communication ports sit together on the top panel for easy access.
Off-grid homes and cabins. Store daytime solar for use overnight, with room to add more batteries as your loads grow.
Home backup power. Pair with an inverter and transfer switch to keep refrigerators, well pumps, lights and networking running during outages.
Generator-assisted systems. Charge at up to 140A from a generator so it runs for shorter periods.
Small commercial backup. Parallel several units for shops, farms and remote sites that need many hours of stored energy.
Versus lead-acid battery banks. A lead-acid bank of similar usable capacity would need many heavy batteries, regular maintenance and deeper derating. NEXUS 2 is maintenance-free, usable to a much deeper depth of discharge, and rated for thousands more cycles.
Versus wall-mounted batteries. Wall-mount batteries need a structural wall and mounting hardware. NEXUS 2 stands on the floor and rolls into place, which suits garages, utility rooms and sheds.
Versus rack-mount server batteries. Rack batteries need a cabinet, bus bars and more interconnect wiring. NEXUS 2 puts 16kWh in one self-contained unit.
Versus the original NEXUS. NEXUS 2 keeps the same footprint and adds capacity, going from 15kWh and 300Ah to 16.08kWh and 314Ah.
This may be a good fit if
BigBattery lists the NEXUS 2 inverter compatibility for off-grid installations that do not require UL 9540. If your installation needs a UL 9540 listed system, ask us about alternatives before ordering.
Up to 15 NEXUS 2 batteries in parallel, for up to 240kWh. The batteries are not designed for series connection. Make sure all batteries are within 1 volt of each other before connecting them in parallel.
BigBattery recommends 57V bulk and absorption with 0 minutes absorption time, 55V float, equalize off, 48V low voltage cutoff, 57V high voltage cutoff and a 50.8V inverter low voltage setting.
Yes. It charges down to 32°F and discharges down to -4°F, and the self-heating function helps keep it charging in cold weather.
BigBattery rates it for more than 8,000 cycles at 80% depth of discharge and backs it with a 12-year warranty. When it reaches the end of its life, BigBattery will recycle it free of charge.
The BigBattery NEXUS 2 gives you 16kWh of safe, expandable LiFePO4 storage in one rolling cabinet, backed by a 12-year warranty. At Outbound Power, we help customers choose the right parts for their solar and battery systems. If you have questions, our team is happy to help.
