The BLUETTI Pioneer Na Sodium-Ion Portable Power Station Charges at 5°F and Keeps Running Down to -13°F With 900Wh and 1500W of Power
The BLUETTI Pioneer Na is a 900Wh portable power station built on sodium-ion cells instead of lithium. It delivers 1,500W of pure sine wave power at 120V through four AC outlets, plus a 100W USB-C port, four USB-A ports, a 12V/10A car outlet and a 15W wireless charging pad on top. It weighs 35.3 lbs and measures 13.4 x 9.7 x 12.5 in.
It's made for people who need power in the cold, such as winter campers, ice anglers, jobsite crews and households facing winter outages. It charges at temperatures down to 5°F (-15°C) and discharges down to -13°F (-25°C), and it recharges from the wall, solar panels, a car or a generator.
BLUETTI Pioneer Na Sodium-Ion Portable Power Station Features
Sodium-Ion Cells That Work in the Cold
BLUETTI says the Pioneer Na still delivers 80% of its discharge capacity at -13°F (-25°C), with its full 1,500W output available. Below 14°F (-10°C), it recharges up to 60% state of charge. There's no heating module, and BLUETTI says no extra insulation is needed. The sodium-ion cells also avoid lithium and cobalt.
1500W Output With 2250W Power Lifting
The four 120V outlets share 1,500W at 50/60Hz, with up to 12.5A from each outlet. Turn on Power Lifting mode in the BLUETTI app to run pure resistive loads up to 2,250W, such as kettles, heaters and electric blankets.
80% in 35 Minutes With AC and Solar
On AC alone, the unit charges at up to 1,400W and reaches 80% in 45 minutes and 100% in 65 minutes at 59°F to 77°F (15°C to 25°C). Add solar for up to 1,900W combined, and BLUETTI rates 80% in 35 minutes and a full charge in 52 minutes.
Solar and Car Charging Cables in the Box
The DC input takes 12V to 60V solar at up to 10A and 500W through the built-in MPPT controller, for a full charge in about 2.3 hours. From a car outlet it takes about 11.4 hours at 12V or 5.1 hours at 24V. Both the solar charging cable and the car charging cable are included.
4000+ Cycles and Low Standby Drain
BLUETTI rates the battery for 4,000+ cycles to about 70% of original capacity, with a 10-year expected life. No-load consumption is 1.5W, rising to 3.8W with DC on, 9W with AC on and 10W with both on.
Layered Safety Protections
The AI-BMS monitors voltage, current and temperature to guard against overcharging, over-discharging and cell imbalance. The fire-retardant ABS case is shock-tested for drops from 1.2 m, and the electronics protect against reverse polarity, short circuits and overvoltage. The fan adjusts to the load and runs at 40dB in silent mode at 180W.
UPS Backup and Bluetooth App
Plugged into the wall, the Pioneer Na switches to battery in 20 ms during an outage, keeping devices like routers, laptops, lights, heating pads and phones running. The BLUETTI app connects by Bluetooth from up to 16.4 ft (5 m) away.
Real-World Applications
Winter camping. BLUETTI estimates about 37 hours for a portable fridge using 500Wh a day and about 49.9 hours for a 10W camping light.
Ice fishing and snow photography. BLUETTI estimates about 36.6 charges for a 15Wh smartphone and about 10.4 charges for a 62.6Wh drone battery.
Winter outages at home. Keep a router, laptop and lights running through the 20 ms UPS. BLUETTI estimates about 7.3 hours for an 85W TV.
Cold jobsites. Run gear up to 1,500W in freezing weather. BLUETTI estimates about 0.9 hours for an 800W coffee maker.
Practical Comparison
Pioneer Na Versus a Lithium Power Station in the Cold
BLUETTI explains that lithium batteries can struggle in the cold as their electrolyte thickens. The sodium-ion cells in the Pioneer Na stay stable, so it can charge at 5°F and discharge at -13°F without, by BLUETTI's account, affecting battery life. If most of your use is below freezing, that's the main reason to choose it.
AC Charging Versus AC Plus Solar Charging
AC alone gives you 1,400W and 80% in 45 minutes. Pairing AC with solar raises input to 1,900W, cutting the time to 80% to 35 minutes and to 100% to 52 minutes.
Buyer Guidance
Sizing and Runtime
Keep your total AC load within 1,500W, and use Power Lifting only for pure resistive loads up to 2,250W. Above 50°F (10°C), BLUETTI estimates runtime as 900Wh x 0.95 depth of discharge x 0.90 inverter efficiency, divided by your load plus about 1.5W of self-consumption. The Pioneer Na doesn't support external battery packs.
Storage
Keep the state of charge between 40% and 60% for storage and recharge it to that level every 3 to 6 months. For storage longer than a month, keep it at 50°F to 77°F (10°C to 25°C).
This May Be A Good Fit If
- You need power in below-freezing weather
- Your loads stay within 1,500W
- You want solar and car cables included
- You prefer a battery without lithium or cobalt
