The BougeRV 50W Fiberglass Flexible Portable Solar Panel is a four-section folding panel with a fiberglass backing that BougeRV describes as lightweight, flexible and able to withstand the elements. It weighs 1.76 lbs and folds to 8.54 x 14.41 x 1.22 in. Unfolded, it measures 34.53 x 14.41 x 0.79 in.
It's a small solar charger for off-grid adventures in RVs, on boats and at camp. An output box on the back has DC, USB-C and USB-A ports, so you can charge a portable power station or plug your phone and tablet straight into the panel. BougeRV's manual lists it as compatible with the BougeRV JuiceGo 240Wh.
The DC port supplies up to 50W at 16V and 3.1A for a power station. The USB-C and USB-A ports each supply up to 18W at 5V 3A, 9V 2A or 12V 1.5A. You can charge a power station and your devices from the same panel.
BougeRV rates the cells at 23% efficiency. Maximum power is 50W, with a maximum power voltage of 16V and a maximum power current of 3.1A. Open circuit voltage is 19V and short circuit current is 3.2A, each with a tolerance of -5% to +10%.
The fiberglass backing keeps the panel flexible and light at 1.76 lbs. The back is covered in gray fabric with the BougeRV logo, and the four sections fold flat against each other for travel.
Metal eyelets sit at the corners of the panel, and four attachment carabiners come in the box. Use them to hang the panel where it can face the sun while you do other things.
BougeRV lists an operating range of -4°F to 140°F. The temperature coefficient for maximum power is -0.40%/°C, for open circuit voltage -0.31%/°C and for short circuit current +0.038%/°C.
Camping and hiking. Hang the panel from a pack or tent with the carabiners and charge your phone from the USB ports through the day.
Power station top-ups. Connect the DC cable to a portable power station such as the BougeRV JuiceGo 240Wh and store energy for lights and devices at night.
RVs and boats. Store the folded panel on board and unfold it when you want solar charging for small electronics.
Emergency kit. BougeRV says a 50W panel can be part of an emergency power plan, especially for keeping small devices charged and maintaining power for essential low-wattage items.
A rigid panel is made for permanent mounting on a roof or frame. This panel folds to 8.54 x 14.41 in, weighs 1.76 lbs and stows in a bag, so it goes with you and comes down when you leave.
A DC-only panel needs a power station or controller before you can charge a phone. This panel has USB-C and USB-A ports on its output box, so phones and tablets can charge straight from the panel.
Choose the 50W Panel option if you already own a power station or only need to charge devices directly. Choose the 50W Panel + 277Wh Battery option if you also want a BougeRV 277Wh battery to store the solar energy you collect.
A 50W panel is made for small loads. BougeRV estimates this panel can produce around 200 to 300 watt-hours of electricity a day, depending on how much sunlight it receives. It suits phones, tablets and topping up a small power station rather than running large appliances.
Weather and the angle of the sun affect charging. Unfold the panel fully and set it in direct sunlight, aimed straight at the sun. BougeRV also advises keeping phones and tablets out of direct sunlight while they charge, because excess heat may damage them.
Yes. The USB-C and USB-A ports each provide up to 18W, so you can plug your phone or tablet straight into the panel.
BougeRV estimates around 200 to 300 watt-hours a day, depending on the amount of sunlight the panel receives.
BougeRV rates the cells at 23% efficiency.
BougeRV lists a 2-year warranty on this panel.
The 50W Panel + 277Wh Battery option adds a BougeRV 277Wh battery.
The BougeRV 50W Fiberglass Flexible Portable Solar Panel puts DC, USB-C and USB-A outputs, four carabiners and 23% efficient cells into a 1.76 lb panel that folds to 8.54 x 14.41 in. If you'd like help choosing between the panel and the battery option, the Outbound Power team is happy to help.
