The BougeRV ASPEN S50 is a single zone compressor fridge with a 50 quart (47 L, 1.66 cu ft) interior. You can set it anywhere from -4°F to 68°F (-20°C to 20°C), so it works as a fridge for drinks and produce or as a freezer for meat, seafood and ice cream. BougeRV shows it holding up to 77 12 oz cans or two 1 gallon milk jugs.
It's 14.57 in wide, narrow enough to sit between the seats in a truck cab, and it runs on 12V or 24V DC or on 100-240V AC with the included adapter. It suits truck drivers, van and RV travelers, campers, boaters and tailgaters who want cold food without buying ice. Choose the fridge on its own or the Fridge + Battery package.
Each press of the plus or minus button changes the set temperature by 1°, and holding a button moves it faster. After 3 seconds the fridge saves your setting and shows the actual temperature inside. BougeRV states it can cool to -4°F even in 90°F outside heat.
MAX mode runs the compressor at high speed for quick cooling, and ECO mode saves energy. The manual rates MAX at 60W and ECO at 45W, and BougeRV's own test at 77°F ambient showed a 30W draw in ECO. A good routine is to start in MAX and then switch to ECO once your food is cold.
BougeRV rates the noise at ≤45dB, which suits a sleeper cab, camper van or tent site at night. The display also dims on its own after 1 minute without a button press, and any key brings it back.
The BougeRV app lets you watch and adjust the temperature from up to 33 ft away. The app is also where you set the battery protection level. The control panel shows the app connection, cooling status, mode, battery protection setting, error codes and °C or °F.
The fridge turns itself off when your supply voltage drops below the level you choose, so you keep enough charge to start your vehicle. On 12V, High cuts out at 11.3V and restarts at 12.5V, Medium at 10.1V and 11.4V, and Low at 8.5V and 9.6V. It's factory set to Medium.
If power is lost, the fridge returns to its last on or off status and working mode at the next startup, so you don't need to set it again.
Long-haul trucking. Keep meals, fruit and drinks between the seats of your cab and plug into 12V or 24V power.
Van and RV travel. Add a separate fridge or freezer to your van, camper or RV and check it from the app.
Camping and tailgating. Bring milk, produce and drinks for a weekend and keep them cold without ice.
Boating. Store drinks and catch in a compact box that runs on DC power.
An ice cooler warms up as the ice melts and leaves food sitting in water. The ASPEN S50 holds the temperature you set, can freeze, and leaves the whole interior for food and drinks.
A thermoelectric cooler is mainly for keeping things cool. The ASPEN S50 uses a compressor, so it can also work as a freezer down to -4°F.
The Fridge Only package runs from your vehicle's DC power or a wall outlet. The Fridge + Battery package adds a BougeRV battery so you can run the fridge away from the vehicle at a campsite or picnic area.
After unpacking, let the fridge stand for 12 hours before you start it. Keep it level while it runs, with a tilt under 5° for long periods and under 45° for short ones. Leave about 200 mm (7.9 in) of space behind it and 100 mm (3.9 in) at the sides for airflow.
BougeRV suggests Medium protection when you connect to a car battery, and Medium or Low with a power station or other battery. Change the level in the BougeRV app. BougeRV also advises disconnecting or switching off the fridge when you turn off the engine, since it could otherwise drain the battery.
