Faraday Defense CYBER Copper Faraday Fabric Gives You Three Conductive Copper Fabrics You Can Cut and Sew Into Your Own RF Shielding

This page covers three copper fabrics from the Faraday Defense CYBER line: CX, CX-100 and CX-100 Non-Woven. Each is a metallic polyester fabric with a copper coating. Each is sold by the linear foot, and multiple quantity orders are shipped uncut.

It's for anyone building their own shielding through sewing, draping or pliable coverings. CX is a copper fabric fortified with nickel that shields by reflecting RF radiation, rated at more than 75 dB. CX-100 and CX-100 Non-Woven are 100% copper plated with no other metal alloys.

CYBER Copper Faraday Fabric Features

Rated Attenuation You Can Plan Around

Faraday Defense rates CX at more than 75 dB from 10 MHz to 6 GHz. CX-100 Non-Woven has an average attenuation of 80 dB from 100 MHz to 10 GHz. Faraday doesn't publish a dB figure for the woven CX-100, which it describes as highly conductive.

A Choice of Copper Blends

CX is coated with copper and fortified with nickel, and Faraday lists superior tarnish and corrosion resistance for it. CX-100 and CX-100 Non-Woven have a 100% copper plated surface with no other metal alloys, for buyers who want a fabric without nickel.

Low Surface Resistance

Faraday lists surface resistance at approximately 0.05 ohm/sq for CX and CX-100 and approximately 0.02 ohm/sq for CX-100 Non-Woven, both per ASTM F390.

Easy to Cut and Sew

All three are 0.08 mm (3 mil) thick and easy to cut and sew. CX and CX-100 are lightweight and flexible. The Non-Woven is a heavy-duty, point-bond copper fabric that stays flexible.

Real-World Applications

Sewn shielding projects. Cut and sew any of the three fabrics into pliable coverings and liners for your own builds.

Walls and flat surfaces. Faraday notes that CX applies easily to dry, level surfaces such as walls.

Wider frequency coverage. Choose CX-100 Non-Woven when your project calls for a rating that reaches 10 GHz.

Practical Comparison

CX Versus CX-100

CX is 44 in wide, contains nickel and carries a more than 75 dB rating from 10 MHz to 6 GHz. CX-100 is 53 in wide and 100% copper plated with no other metals, but Faraday gives no dB rating for it. Choose CX for a published rating and tarnish resistance, or CX-100 if you want no nickel.

CX-100 Woven Versus CX-100 Non-Woven

Both are 100% copper plated. The woven CX-100 is 53 in wide and lightweight. The Non-Woven is 39 in wide, heavy duty, rated at an average of 80 dB from 100 MHz to 10 GHz and has the lower surface resistance at 0.02 ohm/sq.

Buyer Guidance

Handling CX Safely

CX contains nickel and isn't rated for skin contact. Faraday says it may produce skin allergies and recommends handling it with protective gloves. Faraday points buyers who want 100% copper with no other metals to CX-100. Offcuts of all three can go out with normal trash.

This May Be A Good Fit If

  • You sew or build your own shielding
  • You want a fabric without nickel
  • You need a rating up to 6 GHz or 10 GHz
  • You want a heavier non-woven copper fabric

Common Questions

How Is the Fabric Sold?

Each fabric is sold by the linear foot at its own width, and multiple quantity orders are shipped uncut.

Does CX-100 Contain Nickel?

No. Faraday describes CX-100 and CX-100 Non-Woven as 100% copper plated with no other metal alloys. Faraday also notes that conventional knowledge bases accept that copper and copper alloys exhibit anti-microbial properties.

What Is a Point-Bond Fabric?

CX-100 Non-Woven is a point-bond fabric rather than a woven one. The close-up photos show copper fibers held together by a raised bond pattern instead of a weave.

What's Included

  • 1 x CYBER Copper Faraday Fabric, 1 Linear Foot of the Fabric You Choose

Each option is one linear foot of that fabric at its listed width.

Copper Shielding Fabric by the Foot

The Faraday Defense CYBER Copper Faraday Fabric line gives you a nickel-fortified copper fabric and two 100% copper fabrics, all easy to cut and sew. If you'd like help choosing one or working out how many feet you need, the Outbound Power team is happy to help.
