Faraday Defense CYBER Nickel-Copper Faraday Fabric Gives You Eight Conductive Shielding Fabrics to Cut, Sew and Drape for RF Blocking Projects

This page covers eight fabrics from the Faraday Defense CYBER line: NC-I, NC-RS Ripstop, NC-RS-A Ripstop Adhesive, NC-4 Black, NC-TF Taffeta, Diamond DX, Light Filtering Mesh and the Berry Compliant Ripstop. Each is a conductive metallic shielding fabric, and each is sold by the linear foot at its own width.

It's made for people who build their own shielding: sewing covers and liners, draping, making pliable coverings or covering walls. Faraday Defense rates the fabrics from more than 50 dB for the mesh up to 75-105 dB for the Taffeta, so you can match the fabric to the job.

CYBER Nickel-Copper Faraday Fabric Features

Attenuation Rated Fabric by Fabric

Faraday Defense rates NC-I at more than 85 dB, NC-RS-A and Diamond DX at more than 60 dB, NC-RS at more than 55 dB and the Light Filtering Mesh at more than 50 dB, all from 10 MHz to 3 GHz. NC-4 Black is rated at 70-84 dB over the same range. NC-TF Taffeta is rated at 75-105 dB from 10 MHz to 3.60 GHz, with an average of 90 dB. Faraday doesn't publish a dB figure for the Berry Compliant Ripstop.

Nickel Plating Resists Tarnish and Corrosion

Five of the fabrics are metallic polyester coated with pure copper and nickel. Faraday credits the nickel plating with superior tarnish and corrosion resistance, and lists surface resistance at approximately 0.05 ohm/sq (ASTM F390). The Light Filtering Mesh uses a pure nickel coating, and Diamond DX has a conductive metallic coating over a diamond-pattern weave.

Thin and Flexible, Easy to Cut and Sew

The fabrics with a listed thickness are 0.08 to 0.12 mm thick, and Faraday describes them as lightweight and flexible. They are easy to cut and sew, and they apply easily to dry, level surfaces such as walls.

Ripstop Weaves Resist Tearing

NC-RS, NC-RS-A, Diamond DX and the Berry Compliant fabric use a rip-stop (anti-rip) weave. You can see the ripstop grid in the photos. Faraday says the Berry Compliant ripstop weave handles the cutting, sewing, wrapping and layering that real installations require.

Adhesive Backing for Walls

NC-RS-A is the ripstop fabric with an adhesive backing. Faraday lists wallpaper among its uses, along with sewing, draping and pliable coverings.

Light Filtering Mesh With a Metallic Sheen

The Light Filtering Mesh is a fine nickel mesh that Faraday describes as light filtering with a metallic sheen. It is rated at more than 50 dB, which Faraday calls medium grade protection. It cuts and sews like an ordinary fabric.

Berry Compliant and Made in the USA

The Berry Compliant Ripstop is made in the USA from USA-sourced materials and complies with the Berry Amendment. Its nickel-copper coating gives broadband shielding, and Faraday says its multi-directional conductivity keeps performance consistent in any orientation. It has a 51 in usable width.

Real-World Applications

Sewn covers and liners. Cut and sew NC-I, NC-RS or NC-TF into pliable coverings and liners for your own shielding builds.

Wall coverings. Apply NC-RS-A like wallpaper on dry, level walls.

Light filtering layers. Use the Light Filtering Mesh where you want a shielding layer with light filtering and a metallic sheen.

Professional and contract work. Faraday lists Faraday enclosures, shielded rooms, EMI gasketing, wiring harness shielding including EV and ADAS, avionics, telecom infrastructure, EMC test fixtures and TEMPEST environments as uses for the Berry Compliant Ripstop.

Practical Comparison

CYBER Fabric Versus Aluminum Foil Wrap

Foil wrap creases and tears easily, and you can't sew it. The CYBER fabrics are flexible, cut and sew like cloth, and the ripstop versions resist tearing. That makes them easier to build into covers, liners and wall layers.

NC-I Versus NC-TF Taffeta

Faraday describes NC-TF as a heavier, higher performing fabric than NC-I. NC-TF is rated at 75-105 dB up to 3.60 GHz and comes 42 in wide. NC-I is rated at more than 85 dB up to 3 GHz, comes 50 in wide and is thinner at 0.08 mm.

Buyer Guidance

Choosing a Fabric

Start with the job. For sewn covers, choose NC-I, NC-TF or NC-RS. For walls, NC-RS-A sticks in place. Choose the Light Filtering Mesh if the layer needs to filter light, and the Berry Compliant Ripstop if your project calls for Berry Amendment compliance. Check each fabric's width in the specifications to work out how many feet you need.

Handling the Fabric

Nickel may cause skin allergies, so Faraday recommends handling the material with protective gloves. The fabric isn't meant for direct contact with skin. Faraday says offcuts can go out with normal trash.

This May Be A Good Fit If

  • You sew or build your own shielding projects
  • You want a fabric you can cut to size
  • You need an adhesive fabric for walls
  • You need a Berry Amendment compliant fabric

Common Questions

How Is the Fabric Sold?

Faraday sells each fabric by the linear foot at that fabric's width. If you need a long continuous piece, ask the Outbound Power team before you order.

Does the Mesh Let Light Through?

Faraday describes the Light Filtering Mesh as light filtering with a metallic sheen.

What Does Berry Compliant Mean?

Faraday explains that a Berry Compliant product is made in the USA from USA-sourced materials. Faraday notes this matters for the Department of Defense and for individual buyers who want to support American raw goods and manufacturing.

What's Included
