The Faraday Defense NEST-Z EMP Barrier Material Roll is a 36 in wide, 1 yard length of NEST-Z moisture barrier film, sold in a roll. Choose the 3.0 mil four-layer material or the 7.0 mil five-layer aluminized material. Both are heat sealable, suitable for vacuum packaging and designed to provide a static-safe environment for sensitive electronic devices.
It suits anyone who needs to seal items that don't fit a standard bag, or who wants to make shielded packaging in their own sizes. Faraday says both materials were tested to meet or exceed certain electrical and physical requirements of ANSI/ESD S541 and to be ANSI/ESD S20.20 compliant, and both are RoHS compliant and lead-free.
The 3.0 mil material has four layers, a static dissipative coating, polyester, an aluminum shield and static dissipative polyethylene. The 7.0 mil material has five layers, two heavy-gauge static dissipative polyester layers, two aluminum barrier shields and a polyester layer between them.
Faraday Defense rates the 7.0 mil material at greater than 40 dB of EMI attenuation from 1 to 10 GHz (MIL-PFR-81705-REV.D). It lists the 3.0 mil material at 10 dB of EMI attenuation, tested from 1 to 10 GHz. Both list ESD shielding under 10 nJ.
The 7.0 mil material lists 33 lb puncture resistance (FTMS 101-C, 2065.1), tensile strength of 11,500 PSI in the machine direction and 10,000 PSI in the transverse direction, and surface resistivity of 12 ohms per square inch. Its heavy-gauge polyester helps keep sharp objects from puncturing the film.
Faraday lists the same heat sealing conditions for both materials, 400°F (204°C) for 0.6 to 4.5 seconds at 30 to 70 PSI (206 to 482 kPa). Both are also suitable for vacuum packaging.
Faraday calls both materials moisture barriers. The 7.0 mil material lists MIL-STD-3010C Method 3030 for its moisture barrier and a moisture vapor transmission rate under 0.006 grams per 100 square inches over 24 hours.
Custom-size enclosures. Seal the film around gear that doesn't fit a standard bag, using a heat sealer at Faraday's listed conditions.
Static-safe packaging. Package sensitive electronic parts in a static-safe material with listed ESD shielding under 10 nJ.
Vacuum-packed storage. Vacuum pack and heat seal electronics you plan to store for a long time.
The 3.0 mil material is thinner with one aluminum shield and a 10 dB rating. The 7.0 mil material is thicker, has two aluminum barrier shields and a rating above 40 dB, plus listed puncture and tensile strength. Choose 7.0 mil when EMI attenuation and toughness matter.
Foil wrap has no static dissipative layers and no listed ratings. NEST-Z material adds static dissipative layers, a rated ESD shielding value, moisture barrier film and heat sealing conditions you can repeat.
Pick the 7.0 mil material for EMP shielding, since it carries the greater than 40 dB rating. The 3.0 mil material suits static-safe packaging where a lighter film is enough.
Plan on a heat sealer that can reach 400°F (204°C) and hold 30 to 70 PSI for 0.6 to 4.5 seconds, as Faraday lists.
Each roll is 36 in wide and 1 yard long, for both the 3.0 mil and 7.0 mil materials.
The 7.0 mil material. Faraday rates it at greater than 40 dB from 1 to 10 GHz, compared with 10 dB for the 3.0 mil material.
Yes. Faraday says both materials are heat sealable and suitable for vacuum packaging.
The 7.0 mil option includes 1 NEST-Z 7.0 mil aluminized barrier material roll, 36 in x 1 yard, instead.
The Faraday Defense NEST-Z EMP Barrier Material Roll gives you a yard of 36 in wide, heat sealable moisture barrier film in 3.0 mil or 7.0 mil, with static-safe layers and rated EMI attenuation. If you'd like help choosing a thickness for your project, the Outbound Power team is happy to help.
