The Renogy 400 Watt 12 Volt Premium Solar Kit Delivers 400W of N-Type Solar With a Rover 40A MPPT Controller and Bluetooth

The Renogy 400 Watt 12 Volt Premium Solar Kit with Rover 40A MPPT Charge Controller is a complete, ready-to-install solar system for RVs, vans, cabins, boats and backup power. It includes four Renogy 16BB N-type 100W panels, a Rover Li 40A MPPT controller with a BT-2 Bluetooth module, Y branch connectors, a 20-foot adaptor kit, battery tray cables, ANL and in-line fuses, a fuse cable and Z-bracket mounts. A clear wiring diagram walks you through the connections.

Renogy rates the kit at an average of 1.6 to 2.5kWh of electricity per day, depending on sun. That is enough to offset small and medium loads such as lights, a TV, a 12V fridge, fans, laptops and a coffee maker through an inverter. The panels take up relatively little roof space and can also be ground mounted.

Renogy 400W Premium Solar Kit Features

Four 16BB N-Type 100W Panels

N-type cells with 16 busbars deliver high efficiency and better performance in heat and low light. Each panel measures 34.1 x 22.8 x 1.2 inches and carries a 10-year output, materials and workmanship warranty.

Rover Li 40A MPPT Controller

The Rover auto-detects 12V or 24V batteries, accepts up to 100V of solar input and handles 520W at 12V or 1,040W at 24V. A 4-stage charging algorithm extends battery life, and it can even recover over-discharged lithium batteries.

BT-2 Bluetooth Monitoring

The included BT-2 module connects the Rover to the Renogy app, so you can check production, battery status and settings from your phone.

Complete Fusing and Wiring

A 40A ANL fuse set, 2-foot ANL fuse cable, in-line solar fuse holder, tray cables and a 20-foot adaptor kit protect and connect the system, and three pairs of Y branch connectors make panel wiring simple.

Mounting Included

Four sets of Z brackets secure the panels to a roof or flat surface.

Real-World Applications

RVs and fifth wheels. Keep house batteries charged for extended boondocking.

Camper vans. Run a fridge, lights and electronics with app monitoring.

Cabins and tiny homes. Build a reliable off-grid power system for weekend or seasonal use.

Boats and backup power. Charge batteries for marine loads or emergency backup.

How It Compares to Common Alternatives

Versus PWM starter kits. PWM kits cost less but limit panel wiring and waste some energy. The MPPT Rover lets you wire panels in series and harvest more power.

Versus 200W kits. This kit doubles daily energy for larger loads and longer off-grid stays.

Versus generators. Solar charges silently with no fuel, noise or maintenance.

Is This Kit the Right Fit

  • Battery. You will need a 12V or 24V battery bank. The kit does not include one.
  • Roof space. Four panels need roughly 34.1 x 91.2 inches in a row, plus clearance.
  • Expansion. The Rover supports up to 520W at 12V or 1,040W at 24V. Stay at about 90% of its voltage and current ratings for a safety margin.
  • AC loads. Add an inverter to run 120V appliances.

This may be a good fit if

  • You want a complete 400W kit with MPPT and Bluetooth
  • You need 1.6 to 2.5kWh of solar energy per day
  • You want fusing and wiring included
  • You may move to a 24V battery bank later

Common Questions

Can I Add More Panels?

Yes, within the Rover's 100V input, 40A charge current and 520W (12V) or 1,040W (24V) limits.

Will This Kit Power My Air Conditioner?

Check the AC's power rating in watts, multiply by hours of use, divide by your peak sun hours and add a 1.5 to 2 safety factor. Most RV air conditioners need more solar and battery capacity than this kit alone provides.

When Do I Need an Inverter?

If you want to run household appliances like a coffee maker or TV, you need an inverter to convert 12V DC to 120V AC.
