Angled view of the Renogy 500A combiner box enclosure with red and black busbar tabs

The Renogy 500A Combiner Box Gathers Your Battery, Charger and Load Cables on Two Tin-Plated Copper Busbars

The Renogy 500A Combiner Box is a sheet metal enclosure with one positive and one negative busbar, built to bring your DC cables together in one place. It offers four connections for batteries, loads or battery chargers, plus a ground connection. Renogy rates it for 9V to 60V DC and 500A.

It is made for RV, van and off-grid battery systems where a tidy, central hub makes wiring and troubleshooting easier. Renogy says it works with general batteries (12V, 24V, 36V and 48V), inverters, charge controllers and battery chargers.

Renogy 500A Combiner Box Features

Tin-Plated Copper Busbars for Steady Connections

The busbars are tinned copper, 4 x 30 mm, with M8 connections. Renogy says the tin plating helps the system run reliably over long periods.

Room for Thick Cables

The enclosure leaves enough internal space for thick wires and large terminals. Renogy lists it as highly compatible with 4/0 AWG wires, and cables enter through grommet cable ports without damage.

Fuse Mounting at the Positive Busbar

The box supports fuse installation, especially Marine Rated Battery (MRBF) fuses, which attach directly to the positive terminal. Renogy's manual also shows an ANL fuse installation. Fuses are not included, so choose them to match your connected devices.

Extend Terminals for Expansion

Extend terminals let you connect the box to another combiner box when you add batteries or devices. You remove the dust covers and bolt the busbar ports together.

Sheet Metal Case Keeps Terminals Secure

The sheet metal case protects the connections and stays intact when wires are bent or twisted. Renogy says it helps keep ring terminals from loosening under vehicle vibration. The enclosure has an IP22 protection class.

Real-World Applications

RV and van power. Combine batteries, inverter, charge controller and DC loads on one hub instead of stacking ring terminals on a battery post.

Off-grid battery banks. Add a second combiner box through the extend terminals when you expand your bank.

Fixed installs. Mount it on a wall or floor in a clean, cool, dry, ventilated spot out of direct sunlight.

Practical Comparison

Combiner Box Versus Stacked Ring Terminals on a Battery Post

Stacking lugs on a battery post crowds the post and can loosen with vibration. A combiner box gives each device its own busbar terminal and keeps the connections in one enclosed place.

Combiner Box Versus Open Busbar

An open busbar leaves terminals exposed. This box encloses them with a cover and dust covers, and it adds a ground port and extend terminals.

Buyer Guidance

Size Your Cables and Fuses

Continuous current through the box must not exceed 500A, within 9V to 60V. Renogy recommends cables no longer than 32.8 ft (10 m) to limit voltage drop, and its manual lists ampacities by gauge, for example 405A for 4/0 AWG copper at 75°C. Fuses are not included. Choose them for the devices you connect.

Installation Notes

Wear insulating gloves and install the negative terminals before the positive ones. Renogy gives a recommended terminal torque of 70.8 in·lbs (8 N·m). Keep the positive and negative terminals from touching, because a short circuit can damage batteries and devices. Follow local wiring regulations, and ask a qualified electrician if you are unsure.

This May Be A Good Fit If

  • You run a 12V, 24V, 36V or 48V system up to 500A
  • You want one central point for batteries, chargers and loads
  • You plan to add batteries and expand later
  • You want to use MRBF or ANL fuses at the busbar

Common Questions

How Many Connections Does It Have?

It has two busbars with four connections for batteries, loads or battery chargers, plus a ground connection.

Are Fuses Included?

No. MRBF or ANL fuses are not included. Choose them to meet the specifications of your connected devices.

Can I Connect Two Combiner Boxes?

Yes. Use the extend positive and negative terminals to join a second box. Renogy's manual shows the steps.

What Warranty Does It Have?

Renogy lists a 1-year material and workmanship warranty.
