This energy storage bundle pairs the SGS-12K18MAX 12KW 48V all-in-one hybrid inverter with PowerMax 314 Outdoor 51.2V 314Ah LiFePO4 batteries. Choose one inverter with one, two or three batteries, or two inverters with four or six batteries, for 16.07kWh to 96.42kWh of storage.
It is built for whole-home backup, solar self-consumption and energy independence. The inverter supports up to 18kW of PV input, a 200A grid pass-through and grid-tied, off-grid and backup operation, and both the inverter and the batteries carry an IP65 rating for indoor or outdoor installation.
Each SGS-12K18MAX delivers 12000W at 240V split-phase, or 10400W at 120/208V three-phase, with a peak of 1.5 times rated power for 10 seconds and a 6HP motor load rating. The 200A continuous grid pass-through lets the system sit in line with your whole home and keep critical loads powered when the grid goes down.
Two MPPT trackers each take up to 9000W of PV array power and 32A of input current, for 18kW per inverter. The MPPT range is 125-450Vdc with a 550Vdc maximum open-circuit voltage, and SunGold rates tracking efficiency at 99.9%.
You can sell surplus solar to the grid, limit power to your backed-up loads with no export, or run fully off-grid. The inverter also supports AC coupling with an existing on-grid inverter, and timed charge and discharge for peak shaving under time-of-use rates. Grid profiles include California Rule 21, HECO for Hawaii, and UL 1741 with IEEE 1547.1 for the rest of the United States.
Each PowerMax 314 Outdoor battery stores 16.07kWh, with 15.42kWh usable and more than 96% depth of discharge. It delivers 7.68kW of continuous power, with 150A standard and 190A maximum charge and discharge current. SunGold rates it for 8000 cycles at 80% DOD, 0.5C and 25°C.
The inverter and the battery are both IP65 rated against dust and water. The inverter operates from -13°F to 140°F, derated above 113°F, and the battery discharges from 14°F to 131°F and charges from 32°F to 131°F.
The SGS-12K18MAX and PowerMax batteries communicate directly over RS485 and CAN for coordinated, real-time energy management. Each battery has a touch screen, a built-in breaker, and WiFi and Bluetooth for app monitoring.
Up to 6 inverters can run in parallel, scaling output to 72kW, and up to 16 PowerMax batteries can be connected in parallel. Start with the size you need now and add capacity later.

The bundle pairs the inverter with batteries that are designed to communicate with it over RS485 and CAN. You get a matched system in one order instead of sourcing a compatible 48V battery separately.
A grid-tied system without batteries shuts down in an outage. This bundle stores solar energy, can still sell surplus power to the grid, and switches to battery power when the grid is lost.
The single-inverter options deliver 12000W of output with up to three batteries. The two-inverter options run in parallel for twice the output and twice the solar input, with four or six batteries for larger homes.
Choose the battery count from how many hours of backup you need, and the inverter count from your peak load. Each inverter needs its own PV strings within 550Vdc open-circuit voltage and 32A per MPPT. When several batteries run in parallel, SunGold calls for a bus bar, which is not listed in this bundle, so plan for it with your installer.
Each inverter weighs 105.82 lbs and measures 33.07 x 17.32 x 10.24 inches. Each battery weighs 271 lbs and measures 41.26 x 18.11 x 10.67 inches, so plan for freight delivery and help to place it. Installation should be done by a qualified electrician, with 00 AWG battery and AC cable and a 2P-200A grid breaker per inverter.
Yes. Both the SGS-12K18MAX inverter and the PowerMax 314 Outdoor battery are IP65 rated for indoor and outdoor use. Keep the inverter out of direct sunlight, for example under the eaves.
The inverter is listed to UL 1741 SB, UL 1699B DC arc-fault protection, CSA C22.2 No. 107.1, California Rule 21, IEEE 1547:2018, IEEE 1547.1:2020 and the Hawaiian HECO SRD. The batteries are certified to UL 1973 and tested to UL 9540A.
