The SunGold Power 18KW 48V Three-Phase Solar Charge Inverter Runs 120/208V Farm, Shop and Light Commercial Loads on Solar and Battery Power

The PowerCore 18K-48 is an all-in-one 48V solar charge inverter with three-phase 120/208V pure sine wave output. One wall-mounted unit combines 18000W of rated output, two MPPT solar inputs, a battery charger, grid and generator inputs and built-in AC and DC breakers.

It is built for off-grid and backup systems at farms, workshops, small commercial buildings and light industrial sites, with loads such as water pumps, refrigeration, compressors, fans and lighting. Up to 6 units can work in parallel as your site grows.

SunGold Power 18KW 48V Three-Phase Solar Charge Inverter Features

18000W of Three-Phase Output for Larger Loads

The inverter is rated at 18000W, with a maximum AC output of 19800VA and a peak of 2 times rated power for 10 seconds. That surge headroom helps with motors and compressors that draw extra current at startup. The default output is 120V phase to neutral and 208V line to line, at 50/60Hz, and the phase voltage can be set from 100V to 127V.

Two MPPTs With Up to 28.8kW of PV Input

Each of the 2 MPPT trackers accepts up to 14.4kW of PV array power and 36A of input current, for 28.8kW in total. The MPPT operating range is 120-550Vdc with a 600Vdc maximum input voltage, and SunGold rates the trackers at 99.9% efficiency. Two independent trackers let you run two separate strings or roof faces, each at its own operating point.

360A Battery Charging With Wide Battery Support

The 48V battery input works from 40 to 60Vdc and supports lithium-ion, lead-acid and user-defined battery types. Maximum charge and discharge current is 360A, from PV or from the grid and generator. With a lithium battery connected over CAN or RS485, the inverter follows the battery's BMS for charging. It can also wake a lithium battery from hibernation using either utility power or PV input.

Generator Port or Smart Load Output

A dedicated generator port takes a three-phase generator for battery charging and load support. Generator power can be set up to 36kW, split as up to 18kW for charging and 18kW for the loads. Without a generator, the same port can be set as a secondary load output. The inverter then drops the secondary load first when the battery runs low or the load exceeds its rating, so the main load stays powered.

Built-In AC and DC Breakers

The wiring bay holds built-in generator, load and grid breakers rated 125A AC each, plus a 400A DC battery breaker. Pre-installed breakers mean fewer external parts to source and mount, which shortens installation.

Four Output Modes and Scheduled Charging

Choose from four AC output priority modes and two charging modes, solar only or solar plus grid. Time-slot scheduling turns grid charging, battery discharge and bypass on for set periods, which helps you work around time-of-use rates. An energy-saving mode reduces no-load power use.

Live Monitoring and Communication Ports

A large LCD shows a live power flow diagram. The included WiFi module connects the inverter to the mobile app, and RS485, CAN, USB and dry contact ports link batteries and other devices.

Real-World Applications

Farms and ranches. Run three-phase water pumps, fans, lighting and refrigeration from solar and battery storage.

Workshops and warehouses. Power compressors, tools and building systems on a 120/208V three-phase supply.

Small commercial sites. Keep critical loads on the main output while less important loads run from the smart load port.

Remote sites with a generator. Pair the solar array and battery bank with a generator on the dedicated generator input for charging and backup.

Practical Comparison

SunGold Power 18KW Three-Phase Inverter Versus Split-Phase Inverters

Split-phase 120/240V inverters suit most homes. The PowerCore 18K-48 delivers three-phase 120/208V instead, which matches buildings and equipment wired for three-phase power.

SunGold Power 18KW Three-Phase Inverter Versus Separate Components

A component system needs a separate inverter, battery charger, charge controllers and breakers, each mounted and wired on its own. This unit combines them in one wall-mounted cabinet with the breakers already installed, so there are fewer parts to connect.

Buyer Guidance

Indoor Installation and Wiring

The inverter is IP20 rated for indoor use only. Mount it on a solid wall out of direct sunlight, in a dry, ventilated space between 14°F and 131°F; output is derated above 113°F. It weighs 118 lbs and measures 23.36 x 33.40 x 8.47 inches. SunGold specifies 000 AWG battery cable with a 2P-400A breaker, 10 AWG PV cable with a 2P-45A breaker, and 2 AWG cable with 4P-125A breakers for the grid, generator and load circuits.

PV String Limits

Keep the open-circuit voltage of each series string at or below 600V, and the current at or below 36A per MPPT. When inverters run in parallel, each unit needs its own PV array.

This May Be A Good Fit If

  • Your building or equipment runs on 120/208V three-phase power
  • You run pumps, compressors or refrigeration off-grid or as backup
  • You plan a 48V battery bank sized for up to 360A of charge current
  • You may add more inverters in parallel later
  • You can install the inverter indoors

Common Questions

Does the PowerCore 18K-48 Work With Lead-Acid Batteries?

Yes. It supports sealed, gel and flooded lead-acid batteries, lithium-ion batteries and a user-defined battery profile. SunGold recommends pairing it with its own LiFePO4 batteries.

Can I Connect a Generator?

Yes. The generator port accepts a three-phase generator for charging and load support. The port can also be set as a smart load output instead.

How Many Inverters Can Run in Parallel?

Up to 6 units can run in parallel. Each inverter comes with a parallel communication cable, and each unit needs its own PV array.

Can It Be Installed Outdoors?

No. The inverter is rated IP20 for indoor use only. Install it away from direct sunlight, moisture and flammable materials.

Does It Support Rapid Shutdown?

SunGold states that the inverter includes a rapid shutdown system that complies with 2017 and 2020 NEC 690.12 when used with an optional APsmart Transmitter-PLC and APsmart RSD units at the modules. Check the requirements with your local authority.
