View full detailsDiscover our premium selection of solar panel charge controllers designed to enhance the efficiency and lifespan of your renewable energy setup. These intelligent devices prevent battery overcharging and over discharging while optimizing power flow from your solar panels to your batteries. Our controllers feature advanced MPPT and PWM technologies that capture up to 30% more energy than systems without proper regulation. Whether you're powering an off-grid cabin, RV, boat, or home backup system, our solar panel charge controllers provide the reliable protection and performance monitoring your investment deserves. Browse our collection to find the perfect controller for your system size and needs, with options ranging from 10A to 60A and compatibility with 12V, 24V, and 48V battery systems.
A solar charge controller manages the electricity flowing from your solar panels to your battery bank. It regulates charging voltage and current so the batteries receive the appropriate charge without being overcharged or excessively discharged. Many controllers also provide system monitoring and built-in electrical protections. A properly matched controller is essential for maintaining battery performance and getting reliable energy from an off-grid solar system.
You generally need a charge controller when solar panels are being used to charge a standalone battery bank. Connecting panels directly to batteries can expose the batteries to improper charging voltage or current and may cause damage. However, many portable power stations and all-in-one solar systems already have a charge controller built in, so adding an external controller may be unnecessary or inappropriate. Always check how your specific equipment is designed to accept solar input.
MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) controllers continuously adjust the operating point of the solar array to harvest available power efficiently and convert it to the voltage needed for battery charging. PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) controllers use a simpler charging method and generally require the solar array voltage to be more closely matched to the battery system. PWM can be economical for smaller, straightforward systems, while MPPT is generally preferred for larger arrays or applications where maximizing solar harvest is important.
The controller's amperage rating needs to safely handle the charging current your solar array can deliver to the battery bank. Sizing should consider solar array wattage, battery-system voltage, controller output limits, and the manufacturer's required safety margin. A larger solar array or lower-voltage battery bank generally requires more charging current. Choosing the correct rating also leaves enough capacity for the controller to operate safely under strong solar conditions.
Many modern charge controllers support multiple battery chemistries, including lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4), AGM, gel, sealed, and flooded lead-acid, but compatibility varies by model. The controller must provide a charging profile appropriate for your specific battery chemistry and manufacturer's requirements. Using an incorrect charging profile can reduce battery performance, shorten battery life, or prevent the battery from charging correctly.
That depends on the controller's maximum PV input voltage, charging-current rating, battery voltage, and allowable solar input power. Panel wattage alone isn't enough to determine compatibility because the way panels are connected in series and parallel changes array voltage and current. You should calculate the array's maximum open-circuit voltage (Voc) and current, including temperature effects where applicable, before connecting it to the controller.
Yes, provided the combined solar array stays within the charge controller's electrical limits. Panels can be configured in series, parallel, or a combination of both depending on the controller and system design. Series connections increase voltage, while parallel connections increase current, so each configuration affects controller sizing differently. Always verify the complete array specifications rather than assuming compatibility based only on the number or wattage of panels.
If the specific controller supports both 12V and 24V systems, it can typically operate with either battery voltage when configured according to the manufacturer's instructions. Some models automatically detect battery voltage, while others require manual configuration. You still need to verify the controller's PV input limits and allowable solar wattage because those limits may change depending on the battery-system voltage.
Consider whether you need MPPT or PWM technology, along with battery chemistry support, maximum PV input voltage, charging amperage, supported battery voltages, and monitoring capabilities. Some models offer displays, Bluetooth connectivity, remote monitoring, temperature compensation, and configurable charging profiles. Built-in protections against conditions such as overcurrent, overheating, and reverse polarity can also be valuable depending on the system and controller design.
Start with your solar array wattage, panel Voc and Isc specifications, series or parallel configuration, battery-bank voltage, and battery chemistry. These values help determine the required PV input range, charging amperage, power capacity, and charging profile. Choosing a controller without checking these specifications can result in poor charging performance or an incompatible system. Thank you for the 5-star review! We’re glad you’re enjoying your Jackery setup, and we really appreciate you sharing the photo. It looks like a great setup!
Just received and have not had the opportunity to install. Well packaged and looks good.
Hi Kevin, thank you, looking forward to hearing how it works once you install it!
The Jackery was my first power station. I had a lot to learn and much research to do. Outbound Power was easy to work with, they answered the phone and helped with the delivery. We used it constantly on our first camping trip with it, powering our 12v cooler, charging phones and LED lights. No issues at all. Product is well built, durable and easy to understand. Might even get the solar panels later this year. I'd recommend.
Hi Gordon, thank you for sharing your experience! We're thrilled to hear the Jackery served you well on your camping trip. Enjoy exploring with your power station, and we'd be happy to help with the solar panels when you're ready. Safe travels!
This is the first power station I have owned. I chose the Anker Solix c1000 gen 2 because it had great reviews and was the size I wanted. I live in central California and fortunately we do not have a lot of power outages. With winter coming, I decided to prepare just in case. Ordering the product was easy and Outbound Power had the best price.
The only issue I had was registering the product. Anker provided a QR code which is pretty standard. However, I had to call Outbound Power to get a working link. The gal I spoke to at Outbound seemed surprised I had to call.
Hi Dallas, thank you for sharing your experience! We're glad you chose the SOLIX C1000 and that you found ordering easy. We appreciate your feedback about the registration process and will work to improve it. Stay safe and enjoy your power station!
